विकरालमुखी देवि ज्वालामुखि नमोऽस्तु ते । सर्वसत्त्वहिते देवि सर्वदेवि नमोऽस्तु ते ।। ९५.
O goddess with a dreadful face, O flame-mouthed, I bow to you. O goddess, benefactor of all beings, O goddess of all, I bow to you.
इति स्तुता तदा देवी रुद्रेण परमेष्ठिना । तुतोष परमा देवी वाक्यं चेदमुवाच ह । वरं वृणीष्व देवेश यत् ते मनसि वर्त्तते ।। ९५.
Thus praised by Rudra, the supreme goddess was pleased and spoke these words: 'Choose a boon, O lord of gods, whatever is in your mind.'
रुद्र उवाच । स्तोत्रेणानेन ये देवि त्वां स्तुवन्ति वरानने । तेषां त्वं वरदा देवि भव सर्वगता सती ।। ९५.
Rudra said: O goddess, those who praise you with this hymn, O beautiful-faced, may you grant boons to them, O goddess, ever-present and true.
यश्चेमं त्रिप्रकारं तु देवि भक्त्या समन्वितः । स पुत्रपौत्रपशुमान् समृद्धिमुपगच्छति ।। ९५.
Whoever, with devotion, recites this threefold hymn to you, O goddess, attains sons, grandsons, livestock, and prosperity.
यश्चेमं श्रृणुयाद् भक्त्या त्रिशक्तयास्तु समुद्भवम् । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः पदं गच्छत्यनामयम् ।। ९५.
Whoever hears this, with devotion, concerning the origin of the three powers, becomes free from all sin and attains a state free from suffering.
एवं स्तुत्वा भवो देवीं चामुण्डां परमेश्वरीम् । क्षणादन्तर्हितो देवस्ते च देवा दिवं ययुः ।। ९५.
Having thus praised the supreme goddess Chamunda, Bhava vanished in an instant, and the gods returned to heaven.
य एतां वेद वै देव्या उत्पत्तिं त्रिविधां धरे । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः परं निर्वाणमृच्छति ।। ९५.
Whoever knows this threefold origin of the goddess and holds it, becomes free from all sin and attains supreme liberation.
भ्रष्टराज्यो यदा राजा नवम्यां नियतः शुचिः । अष्टम्यां च चतुर्दश्यामुपवासी नरोत्तमः । संवत्सरेण लभते राज्यं निष्कण्टकं नृपः ।। ९५.
When a king, deprived of his kingdom, observes the ninth day with purity, and fasts on the eighth and fourteenth days, within a year he regains a kingdom free from obstacles.
एषा त्रिशक्तिरुद्दिष्टा नयसिद्धान्तगामिनी । एषा श्वेता परा सृष्टिः सात्त्विकी ब्रह्मसंस्थिता ।। ९५.
This threefold power has been declared, following the principles of conduct; this is the white, supreme creation, sattvic, established in Brahma.
एषैव रक्ता रजसि वैष्णवी परिकीर्त्तिता । एषैव कृष्णा तमसि रौद्री देवी प्रकीर्त्तिता ।। ९५.
This same power is red in passion, called Vaishnavi; this same is black in darkness, called Raudri, the goddess.
परमात्मा यथा देव एक एव त्रिधा स्थितः । प्रयोजनवशाच्छक्तिरेकैव त्रिविधाऽभवत् ।। ९५.
Just as the Supreme Self, O divine one, is one yet established in three forms, so too, by necessity, the single power became threefold.
य एतं श्रृणुयात् सर्गं त्रिशक्त्याः परमं शिवम् । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः परं निर्वाणमाप्नुयात् ।। ९५.
Whoever hears this account of creation, the supreme auspiciousness of the triple power, becomes free from all sin and attains the highest liberation.
यश्चेदं श्रृणुयाद् भक्त्या नवम्यां नियतः स्थितः । स राज्यमतुलं लेभे भयेभ्यश्च प्रमुच्यते ।। ९५.
Whoever listens to this with devotion, steadfast on the ninth day, obtains incomparable sovereignty and is freed from all fears.
यस्येदं लिखितं गेहे सदा तिष्ठति धारिणि । न तस्याग्निभयं घोरं सर्पचौरादिकं भवेत् ।। ९५.
For the one whose home always holds this written text, there will be no dreadful fear from fire, serpents, thieves, or the like.
यश्चैतत् पूजयेद् भक्तया पुस्तकेऽपि स्थितं बुधः । तेन यष्टं भवेत् सर्वं त्रैलोक्यं सचराचरम् ।। ९५.
And whoever worships this, even when it is kept in a book, with devotion and wisdom, all the three worlds, with their moving and unmoving beings, are as if offered by him.
जायन्ते पशवः पुत्रा धनं धान्यं वरस्त्रियः । रत्नान्यश्वा गजा भृत्या यानाश्चाशु भवन्त्युत । यस्येदं तिष्ठते गेहे तस्येदं जायते ध्रुवम् ।। ९५.
Cattle, sons, wealth, grain, noble women, jewels, horses, elephants, servants, and vehicles quickly arise for the one whose home holds this; these surely come to him.
श्रीवराह उवाच । एतदेव रहस्यं ते कीर्त्तितं भूतधारिणि । रुद्रस्य खलु माहात्म्यं सकलं कीर्त्तितं मया ।। ९५.
Śrī Varāha said: This very secret has been declared to you, O bearer of beings; the entire greatness of Rudra has been recounted by me.
नवकोट्यस्तु चामुण्डा भेदभिन्ना व्यवस्थिता । या रौद्री तामसी शक्तिः सा चामुण्डा प्रकीर्त्तिता ।। ९५.
There are nine crore forms of Cāmuṇḍā, established in various distinctions; that fierce, dark power is called Cāmuṇḍā.
अष्टादश तथा कोट्यो वैष्णव्या भेद उच्यते । या सा च राजसी शक्तिः पालनी चैव वैष्णवी । या ब्रह्मशक्तिः सत्त्वस्था अनन्तास्ताः प्रकीर्त्तिता ।। ९५.
There are eighteen crore forms of Vaiṣṇavī, it is said; that royal power is the sustaining Vaiṣṇavī, and the Brahma power, established in sattva, is declared to be infinite.
एतासां सर्वभेदेषु पृथगेकैकशो धरे । सर्वासां भगवान् रुद्रः सर्वगश्च पतिर्भवेत् ।। ९५.
Among all these distinct forms, individually and separately, Lord Rudra is the master and pervader of them all.
यावन्त्यस्या महाशक्त्यास्तावद् रूपाणि शंकरः । कृतवांस्ताश्च भजते पतिरूपेण सर्वदा ।। ९५.
As many forms as there are of this great power, so many forms has Śaṃkara created, and he always assumes the role of their lord.
यश्चाराधयते तास्तु रुद्रस्तुष्टो भविष्यति । सिद्ध्यन्ते तास्तदा देव्यो मन्त्रिणो नात्र संशयः ।। ९५.
Whoever worships them, Rudra will be pleased; those goddesses and their attendants will grant success—there is no doubt about this.
अथ त्रिशक्तिरहरये रौद्रीव्रतम् या सा नील गिरि याता तपसे धृतमानसा
Now, the triple power for Hari: the fierce vow—she who went to the blue mountain, her mind set on austerity.
तपः कृत्वा चिरं कालं पालयाम्याखलं जगत्
Having performed austerity for a long time, she sustains the entire world.
तरयाः कालान्तरे देव्यास्तपन्यास्तप उत्तमम्
In another age, by the goddess's supreme austerity, the highest penance was accomplished.
समुद्रमध्ये रत्नाढ्यं पुरमस्ति महावनम्
In the midst of the ocean, there is a city rich in jewels, a great forest.
अनेकशतसाहस्रकेटिट्युत्तरोत्तरैः
With countless hundreds of thousands, increasing ever more.
कालेन महता चासौ लोकपालपुराण्यथ
Over a long period, those ancient cities of the guardians of the worlds came to be.
उत्तिष्ठतस्तस्य महासुरस्य समुद्रतोयं ववृथेऽतिमात्रम्
As that great asura rose, the ocean's waters swelled beyond measure.
अन्तःस्थितानेकसुरारि सङ्कवाद्विचित्रवमयुधचित्रशोभम्
Within it, many enemies of the gods were concealed, their weapons and armor shining with wondrous variety.
