Likewise, in Trishringa, with peaks of gems and gold and all kinds of jewels, from its northern peak to the southern ocean, are the Uttarakurus. Clothes and ornaments grow on the trees; there are milk-trees and milk-liquors. The ground is covered with jewels and golden sand. There, people descended from heaven live, with a lifespan of thirteen thousand years. To the west of this island, four thousand yojanas beyond, is Chandradvipa, circular and a thousand yojanas in diameter, belonging to the realm of the gods. In its center are two great mountains, Chandrakanta and Suryakanta. Between them flows the great river Chandravati, surrounded by many fruit trees and rivers. This is the Kuruvasha region. To its northern shore, five thousand yojanas beyond the ocean, is Suryadvipa, circular and a thousand yojanas in diameter, belonging to the realm of the gods. In its center is a great mountain, a hundred yojanas wide and equally high. From it flows the river Suryavarta. There, the sun is worshipped, and the people are of the sun's color, living for ten thousand years. To the west of this island, four thousand yojanas beyond, is Rudrakara island, circular and ten thousand yojanas in diameter. There is the auspicious seat of the wind, adorned with many jewels. There, the wind, in embodied form, resides. The people are golden-colored, living for five thousand years.

These are the principal rivers; the rest are minor rivers. This is the arrangement of Kushadvipa. Shakadwipa is twice its size and is described as such. In its center is the great Kush stalk. Kushadvipa is surrounded by the curd ocean, twice the size of the milk ocean.

Rudra said: Now comes Krauncha, the fourth, twice the size of Kushadvipa, surrounded by the ocean twice over. There are seven principal mountains: Krauncha, Vidyullata, Raivata, Manasa, Pavaka, Andhakara, Achchodaka, Devavritta, Surapa, Devishta, Kanchana-shringa, Devananda, Govinda, Dvivinda, Pundarika, Toshashaya. These seven jewel mountains are established in Kraunchadvipa, each higher than the last. The regions are: Krauncha's is Kushala, Madhava; Vamana's is Manoanuga, Samvartaka, Toshnavan, Somaprakasha; Pavaka's is Sudarshana; Andhakara's is Sammoha; Munidesha's is Prakasha; Dundubhi's is Anartha. There are seven rivers.

Gauri is also called Pushpavaha; Kumudvati is Tamravati; Sandhya is Sukha-vaha; Manojava is Kshiproda; Khyati is Gobahula; Pundarika is Citravega. The rest are minor rivers. Kraunchadvipa is surrounded by the clarified butter ocean, called Shalmala.

Rudra said: I will now speak of the remaining three islands and their peoples. Listen as I describe the fifth region, Shalmala. Shalmala is considered twice the size of Kraunchadvipa.

Encircled by the clarified butter ocean, its extent is twice that. There are seven principal mountains, and as many regions and rivers. The mountains are: Sumahan, Pita, Shatakaumbha, Sarvagunasauvarna, Rohita, Sumanasa, Kushala, Jambunada, Vaidyuta—these are the clan-mountains and regions. Next, the sixth, Gomeda, is described. Just as Shalmala is surrounded by the Suroda ocean, so Suroda is surrounded by Gomeda, twice its size. There are two principal mountains: one is Tavasara, the other Kumuda. The ocean of sugarcane juice is twice surrounded by Pushkara. There, the mountain called Manasa is in the region called Pushkara, which is divided in two. It is surrounded by sweet water. Then comes the boundary. This is the measure of the earth, and the extent of the Brahmanda is up to the boundary. There is no count of such worlds. In every cycle, the Lord Narayana, in the form of a boar, enters the netherworld and lifts them up with a single tusk, establishing them. Thus, the path and the extent of the earth have been described. May you be blessed; I will depart for Kailasa, O twice-born.
Śrī Varāha said: Having spoken thus, Rudra departed and in a moment became invisible; and all those gods and sages also departed as they had come.
Dharanī said: Some know Śiva, the Supreme Self, as pure and holy; others know Bhava as Hari, Īśāna, or the Four-faced one.

Śrī Varāha said: Nārāyaṇa is the supreme god; from him was born the Four-faced one, and from him arose Rudra, who attained omniscience.

One day, the great god, bearer of the bow Pināka, revered by all beings, was surrounded by his attendants and by Gaurī.

Some had the faces of porpoises, others of boars; some had horse faces, fierce and terrible, with donkey and goat faces as well, and some with faces of sheep and fish, cruel and countless, bearing weapons in their hands.

Some leaders of the attendants, seizing clods of earth, fought; others, proud of their strength, wrestled in hand-to-hand combat; thus, the great lord Maheśvara was surrounded by a thousand attendants.
While the great god was playing with the goddess, at that very moment, Brahmā himself quickly arrived with the gods.
Seeing him arrive, and after worshipping him according to the proper rites, the supreme god Rudra spoke to the imperishable Brahmā.
He said: Brahmā, tell me quickly the reason for your coming. Why have the gods, filled with urgency, come into my presence?
Brahmā said: There is a great demon named Andhaka, by whom all the gods have been tormented; knowing this, they have come to me for refuge.
Therefore, I told all these gods, 'Let us go to you, O Lord of gods,' and so they have all come here.
Having spoken thus, Brahmā himself gazed at Pinākin, and in his mind remembered Nārāyaṇa, the supreme lord; then the god Nārāyaṇa stood between the two.
Then, Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Maheśvara, having come together, gazed at one another with subtle vision, filled with joy.
Then, from their gaze, which became threefold, a single vision arose; from that vision, a maiden of divine form was born.
She was dark as the petal of a blue lotus, with blue, curly hair; her nose was fine, her forehead beautiful, her face lovely, and her form well proportioned.
Shatamala, Tamraparni, Pushpavati, Utpalavati—these arise from Malaya mountain. Triyama, Rishikulya, Ikshula, Trivida, Langulini, Vamshavara—these are daughters of Mahendra. Rishika, Lusati, Mandagamini, Palashini—these arise from Shuktiman. These are the principal rivers from the clan-mountains; the rest are minor rivers. This is Jambudvipa, measuring a hundred thousand yojanas. Now, listen about Shakadwipa. Twice the size of Jambudvipa, surrounded by salt water, and encircled by the ocean twice over. There, the virtuous peoples live long, and the land is free from famine, old age, and disease. There are seven clan-mountains, and on both sides are the salt and milk oceans. To the east is the mountain Shailendra, called Udaya. Beyond it is Jaladhara, also called Chandra. Indra takes its water and makes it rain. Beyond it is Raivataka, also called Narada. From Narada mountain arises many diverse peoples, playing and called Siddhas. Beyond it is Shyama, also called Dundubhi, where the people are dark. Beyond it is Rajata, also called Shaka. Beyond it is Ambikeya, also called Vibhrājasa, also called Kesari. Then the wind blows. The mountain names are also the names of the regions: Udaya, Sukumara, Jaladhara, Kshema, Mahadruma—these are the principal ones, and others are named similarly. In its center is the Shaka tree, and there are seven great rivers, each with two names: Sukumari, Kumari, Nanda, Venika, Dhenu, Ikshumati, Gabhasti.
