After bathing the image of the Lord with the five sacred nectars and anointing it with fragrant saffron, my devoted follower—disciplined in self-control—should lovingly worship the goddess with fresh lotuses. The worship extends to Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, Buddha, Kalkin, and others, offering them flowers, incense, radiant lamps, and a variety of delicious foods. At night, O virtuous one, the ritual of awakening the Lord of gods should be performed, accompanied by offerings of flowers, incense, and auspicious fruits. Gifts of ornaments, garments, and similar offerings should be presented as one is able, according to one’s means and devotion. This Lord is the origin of the world, the very form and the beginningless source of all creation. Even if I had thousands upon thousands of mouths, I could not fully describe His greatness; yet, I will speak briefly and to the best of my ability—listen attentively. Whoever worships with such devotion, together with their vehicle, O Earth, will reach my divine realm. There, one is blessed with long life and health, and is freed from the cycle of rebirth. Simply hearing about these sacred acts destroys all sins. Even a wise but impoverished person, reflecting with devotion, may be graced to see or touch a human being as a sign of auspiciousness. When the greatness of the Lord—who removes the fear of worldly existence—is recited, even bad dreams are dispelled. Those who do this are truly blessed; they have fulfilled the purpose of life, for in them alone is merit accomplished. Whoever utters the names ‘Nārāyaṇa, Acyuta, Ananta, Vāsudeva’ is sanctified—how much more so, then, is one who, with unwavering faith and a steady mind, worships me! This is the glory of Yajña-Varāha, of Viṣṇu, whose splendor is immeasurable. Therefore, with great discipline, one should follow the path of the Vaiṣṇavas. After worshipping the Lord who bears the bull-banner over countless births, one’s sins are destroyed when the Lord is truly worshipped. By serving me in this way, one attains that supreme abode of Viṣṇu. Whether remembered, praised, seen, or even touched, O beloved, the wise should worship Janārdana, knowing this truth. Yama spoke: Those who worship the Lord of the universe according to the prescribed rules become absorbed in Him. For them, this world no longer binds; they reach that supreme abode. The wise, known as awakened, attain the highest state. O best of the twice-born, what I have spoken is indeed the truth. O most fortunate one, I have explained all that you have asked. Everything you inquired has been summarized and expounded, O lover of righteousness. Thus ends the two hundred and eleventh chapter, entitled ‘Description of the Means for Destroying Sin,’ in the glorious Varaha Purana. Now begins the account of the wheel of worldly existence, and the description of awakening. Excellent, excellent, O great king, foremost among those who know all dharmas! I am greatly pleased, for you stand firmly on the path of righteousness. O king of kings, you have honored me above all others. May blessings be upon you, O great king; remain steadfast, O virtuous one. You shine with brilliance, illuminating everything like the sun in the sky. When he departed, after a long time, that king, devoted to dharma and having performed proper worship for me and spoken kindly, O steadfast one, all this was told to you, O brahmins, in the presence of that foremost king.
