In the sacred region of Mathura, there lies a beautiful pond, its waters clear and pure, adorned with blue lotuses that bloom serenely upon its surface. Within this holy field, there is a place known as Saṃpīṭhaka, revered as the most supreme among all. It is said that those who spend even a single night there and perform the ritual bath are greatly blessed; when their time on earth comes to an end, they attain the world of the Divine. In this sanctified place, I myself have worshipped the auspicious Sun, and there, the Sun—holding a radiant lotus in his hand—has been beheld in his splendor. On the seventh day of the dark fortnight, the Sun is always present there, bestowing his blessings. For those who come with devotion, nothing in the world is difficult to obtain, for the Sun, in his generosity, grants all that is sought. Whether man or woman, each who seeks with a pure heart attains the full fruit of their efforts without fail. Even the mighty Bhishma, having placed the Sun before him, attained this supreme state. Here, through the acts of bathing and giving, one obtains whatever is desired. Thus concludes the chapter that extols the merit of bathing and performing other sacred acts at Malayarjuna and other holy places, revealing the greatness of Mathura. Now, let me reveal the manifestation of the sacred places of Mathura. My divine region of Mathura stretches for twenty yojanas, vast and sanctified. In the rainy season, it is advised to reside in that place which brings true joy to the heart. Across the seven continents, there are many sacred places and holy abodes, but when I, the Lord, awaken from sleep and set my lotus-like face upon the earth in Mathura, all who dwell there become recipients of liberation. Those who bathe again in the holy river Kalindi are honored in my celestial world. Whosoever circumambulates Kesava in Mathura, carrying a vessel filled with ghee and adorned in complete garments, enters a domain five yojanas in breadth and five in length—a place abundant in every desired enjoyment and attended by groups of radiant apsaras. There, such a devotee ascends daily, surrounded by a circle of divine radiance. O Devi, it is this place that all beings long for; the merit gained from actions performed on earth endures and bears fruit. In the homes of the virtuous, humans are born, and the deity protects this sacred field, destroying all sin. Animals, ghosts, demons, and obstructive spirits cannot trouble those who are devoted to me, for I, Śrī Varāha, have appointed the guardians of the directions for their protection. Indra watches over the east, Yama guards the south, and mighty Kubera protects the north. Whoever builds a house or palace in Mathura, especially near the pond with its pure waters, is truly blessed. Whoever, after bathing, gives up their life there, attains a wondrous state. Listen, O Earth, to what I tell you: in winter, the waters become warm; in summer, they remain cool. The pond neither swells in the rainy season nor dries up in the summer. At every step in Mathura, the fruits of pilgrimage are found in abundance. During the rainy season, one should bathe diligently at the prominent holy sites, as well as at the sacred currents and confluences of rivers. Thus is revealed the unmatched greatness and sanctity of Mathura, where the blessings of the Divine are ever-present for those who seek them with devotion.
