My arrows and bow are ever at hand, along with my trusty axle-cord and water-pot. Ascending the radiant White Mountain, I journey down among the many Kurus. From those lofty heights, I cast down countless forms from the sky. At this point, Sūta continued: Filled with supreme wonder, my heart uplifted by the power of Viṣṇu, I beheld marvelous sights. The wise son of Brahmā, overwhelmed with amazement, then spoke. Sanatkumāra said: “O goddess, you have directly seen the Lord of all the worlds. He, whose eyes are broad as lotus petals, the one you addressed—he, as you recount, revealed the supreme and secret dharma, composed by the foremost of gods. Tell me, what did that lotus-eyed Lord say next?” Sūta replied: The Lord of the universe, addressing the son of Brahmā with sweet words, spoke thus: “Listen, child. In that very place, all actions are performed according to the prescribed rules. There are purifying acts for sins, gentle acts, and auspicious ones as well. None but I bear the weight of these, and my steeds are swift beyond compare. There, four streams descend, swift as the mind and white as conch shells. Reaching the world of Citrāṅgada, one delights there in the company of the Gandharvas. Leaving the Gandharva world behind, one attains my own realm. In that place, five streams fall, resembling palm trees in their grace. There, he beholds the divine sage Nārada and rejoices with him. Departing from Nārada, he attains my divine realm. Further on, three streams descend, neither thick nor slender. Arriving at the world of Vasiṣṭha, one rejoices—there is no doubt. Leaving the world of Vasiṣṭha, he attains my realm. Here, five streams fall, emerging from the snowy peaks. There, he reaches the land where the sage Pañcaśikha dwells. Leaving Pañcacūḍa behind, he attains the supreme state. Here, seven streams fall, situated upon the sacred Himavat mountain. In this realm, he delights in the worlds of the sages, surrounded by their radiant daughters. Departing from the seven sages, he rejoices, firmly established in my realm. There, a single stream falls—the river sacred to Śarabhaṅga. In those worlds he delights, rejoicing with the daughters of the sages. Leaving Śarabhaṅga behind, he is honored in my world. Having claimed the earth, the water remains there, O noble-faced one. Angiras then goes to his own world, enjoying happiness without doubt. Leaving the world of Agni, he attains my world. Here, a single stream falls, resting upon the snowy peak. Reaching the world of Bṛhaspati, he is delighted in the company of the sage’s daughters. Leaving Bṛhaspati, he too attains supreme perfection. Again, a single stream falls here, visible from the snowy abode. Arriving at the world of Bṛhaspati, he is enchanted by the sage’s daughters. Then, devoted to my deeds, he relinquishes his life in this sacred place. Know that the pool of Kārttikeya is a secret, supreme field of mine.
