Let me share with you the wondrous account found in the sacred verses. There exists a place of profound mystery—a lake so unfathomable and boundless, adorned with red lotuses, charming and delightful. If any wrongdoer throws a lump into its midst, none will take it; it remains there until it is consumed by the very person who cast it. Such is the marvel of this sacred lake, whose depths and beauty are beyond comprehension. Those who reach the abode of Budha rejoice in bliss, and from there, they ascend to my world. Yet, humans who are not devoted to my works cannot perceive this place; it is veiled from their sight. The lake is covered with lotuses, and among them, one may see a single white lotus and another fashioned of gold. From above, a thick stream falls, like a pestle, and its waters are clear. When one attains the world of Brahma, joy fills their heart without doubt. Sanctioned by Brahma, they are permitted to enter my own realm. My devotees, upon witnessing liberation from the terrible cycle of worldly existence, are filled with wonder. At midday, as long as the sun shines, the sacred waters fall to the earth—a marvel indeed at Brahma’s holy lake. There, the ocean and Rama, O beautiful-limbed one, will meet. The land is abundant with bushes and creepers, adorned by birds, and filled with the finest fragrances of kumuda and lotus flowers. By going to the abode of the ocean, one attains my realm, and those who witness it wander freely, all their afflictions gone. No one among men sees any dwelling there on earth, and even those who enter cannot perceive a path or opening. To the east, not far from the side, at half a yojana’s distance, streams fall and their waters are clear. Those who reach this place attain the highest worlds of the four guardians of the directions, and leaving those guardians behind, they delight in my worlds. On earth, in the company of pure devotees of the Lord, liberation from all worldly existence is assured. The water of this lake neither increases nor decreases. One hears enchanting singing, pleasing both to the ear and the mind. There will be the hermitage of Rama, son of Jamadagni, who, having placed the Śālmalī tree in front, remains facing north. Then, journeying to the world of the sages, one sees Arundhatī as well. Leaving the sages’ world, one attains my world, and by this, a salutation is performed for twelve years. The wicked, deluded by my māyā, cannot see me, but pure devotees of the Lord behold me, O beautiful-hipped one. This place is known as Jaṭākuṇḍa, situated in the northwestern direction, to the south of Malaya and north of the ocean. Those who go to Agastibhakna rejoice, and leaving Agasti’s abode, they enter my world. O noble lady, the great ocean is vast and unfathomable—such is the sacred wonder of these realms, where devotion, purity, and liberation await those who seek them.
