By the power of these teachings, it is said, seven times seven families are uplifted and delivered. Such wisdom should be entrusted to a worthy son, a devoted disciple, or one who truly knows the art of service. Whether it is a single verse or even a line, whoever seeks the highest state should receive it. With supreme affection, the Lord Himself remains, having taken up the eastern direction, bestowing this secret—hidden, yet bringing happiness in all actions. “O highly fortunate one,” the Lord addressed, “you have inquired about my most sacred field.” Thus concludes the one hundred and forty-seventh chapter, entitled ‘The Greatness of Goniṣkramaṇa,’ in the divine scripture of the Śrī Varāha Purāṇa. Now, after hearing the greatness of Goniṣkramaṇa—most secret and unsurpassed—and the glory of the Lord having been praised, the Earth herself spoke: “O Lord of the Universe, having heard this, I am completely fulfilled. Yet, O Nārāyaṇa, Supreme Lord, please reveal to me further the supreme secret.” Śrī Varāha replied, “I am free from all envy; therefore, I am the Supreme Lord. This scripture, O highly fortunate one, has been set forth by me as a divine play.” Dharaṇī, the Earth, responded with devotion: “Just so, just so, O immeasurable Lord Varāha; you delight the heart and mind, O Janārdana.” Hearing these words of the Earth, the great-minded Varāha, foremost in righteousness, declared, “I shall now reveal this secret, which brings happiness to the world. It is renowned as ‘Stutasvāmi’—my supreme and hidden field. I am the son of Vasudeva, born from the womb of Devakī. In time, I will have five excellent disciples, wise and discerning. When I have gone to the earth, they will establish me, the very embodiment of Dharma. And Bhṛgu, O highly fortunate one, will walk my path as well. By the power of their own knowledge, they will ever make me shine forth. “As time passes and they remain devoted to my actions, I shall grant each of them a boon, according to what abides in their hearts. Where Dharma is firmly established, there the scripture of the Self will be upheld. By your grace, O Lord, may this world proceed rightly. There is no doubt, for all of you are dear to me. Therefore, these devoted ones will proclaim all that is cherished by the devotees of Bhagavān. Thus, in all the scriptures, the Varāha teaching is esteemed, like clarified butter amongst offerings. “In this way, I have spoken equally with myself, indeed, through my own Self. This supreme and subtle knowledge is found among the devoted ones of the Earth. And now, O Vasundhara, listen as I reveal something further: some cross over by knowledge, some remain steadfast in action. Some, having enjoyed the power of yoga, perceive my abiding presence. Some are performers of all duties, some are filled with all desires, some are engaged in all transactions. “Thus, O goddess, this great scripture is the means for liberation from worldly existence. They will teach accordingly, each in the way that pleases them. By the influence of the age, O Earth, people act thus. Yet, by my grace, all of them will attain the highest accomplishment in me. If there is any fault in my scripture, for them there is rebirth here. And for those whose hearts are afflicted by envy, there is no higher world.” In this way, the Lord imparted the supreme knowledge, ensuring the path for liberation and fulfillment for all who are devoted and sincere.
