In the sacred field that is mine, there exists a supreme place known as Agnisatya. There, if a person, having fasted for three nights, bathes in those holy waters, he is graced by my presence. In Badarī, too, my hermitage is famed as Indraloka, and from its lofty peaks, a great stream descends once more to the world below. There, if one bathes after fasting for a single night, the blessings are profound. Within the holy precincts of Badarī’s hermitage lies the revered site called Pañcaśikha. If a devotee bathes at the five streams that flow there, and, after performing extremely difficult deeds, surrenders his very breath at that spot, he attains the highest merit. In that same field of mine is another sanctified place, Catuḥsrota. There, one who fasts for a night and then bathes, and who, after a most arduous act, relinquishes his life-breath, finds a celebrated site called Vedadhara in that sacred land. Upon the slopes of the Himalaya, there rise peaks even greater than the famed four-peaked mountain. Whoever bathes there, having observed a fast for four nights, and then, established in my path of action, gives up his life, surpasses even the world of the gods and attains my own supreme realm. In that highest field of mine is a place renowned as the Pool of the Twelve Suns. There, at the mountain’s summit, beneath a great tree and upon a stone surface, whoever bathes on any twelfth lunar day, and then, devoted to my action, abandons his life, is supremely blessed. This supreme field is also known as Lokapala. In the midst of the mountain lies my great terrestrial pool, where one should bathe on the twelfth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Jyeshtha. If, intent on my deeds, one gives up his life there, he is sanctified. There is also the place called Merorvara, where my supreme secret is hidden. There, three streams fall, shining with a golden radiance. Whoever bathes there, having fasted for three nights, and then dies in that supreme secret of mine, attains liberation, O Devi. Another excellent ford exists there, called Manasodbheda—a place so secret that even the gods do not know it. Whoever bathes there after fasting for a day and night, O woman, is especially blessed. There is yet another most secret place of mine, named Pañcaśira. At the summit of the great-headed rock, five pools are found, and among them, the middle pool is distinctly marked by the self-born one. Whoever bathes there, having fasted for five nights, O woman, and then gives up the body at my secret Pañcaśira, being wise, intelligent, and free from passion and delusion, attains the highest state. There is another supreme tīrtha of mine called Somābhiṣeka, where, when the Brāhmaṇas were enthroned, I myself anointed Soma. There, I was pleased by the son of Atri, O Mādhavi, and by my grace, O Earth, he attained the highest perfection. In this sacred region, Skanda, Indra, and the hosts of Maruts are born and into it they dissolve, for this field is the very heart of my divine presence.
