Listen closely, O pure-smiled one, as I describe to you the signs and wonders of these sacred places. In the holy land, there moves a tortoise of astonishing size—like the wheel of a chariot—marking the spot. If one bathes there, O lovely-hipped one, the reward is truly great and excellent; there, O Earth, one attains this blessing without any doubt. At this place, a person gains the fruit equivalent to ten lotuses and, through such merit, always attains perfection, ultimately reaching my world. This sacred site is known as Agnitīrtha, established in Kubjāmra. In the months of Kaumudā and Mārgaśīrṣa, and also in the month of Mādhava at the proper time, those who are present receive special merit. Now, O Earth, I will describe to you its sign; so focus your mind with single-pointed attention and listen. Truly, no one else knows my scripture, nor does anyone else possess this knowledge. Gather your mind in one place and hear this, O Earth. The Agni-tirtha, O noble one, shines with radiance and is wholly Vaishnava in nature. Merely by bathing there, O noble one, one attains its reward—of this, there can be no doubt. By staying there for twenty days and nights, one is assured of reaching my world. It is through this that the wise recognize my devotion, which brings happiness. Remarkably, in the hot season, the place becomes cool—this is its sign. Through this, people cross over the dreadful ocean of worldly existence. Another tirtha, known as Vayavya and born of Dharma, grants immense merit. Whoever bathes there and performs the daily water-rites attains the complete fruit of the Vajapeya sacrifice. For ten or five days, this is my established rule. Such a person is born with four arms and is established in my world. The sign by which this tirtha is known is the greatest; on the twelfth day, it is recognized. There is also Shakra-tirtha, the liberator from all worldly existence. Shakra himself dwells in that world, holding the thunderbolt—of this, there is no doubt. After fasting for ten nights, one goes to my world. Focus your mind in single-pointed concentration and listen, O beautiful one, to the truth. The mark of Śakra’s sacred place has now been described to you, O Earth. At another holy site, Varuṇa performed austerities for five thousand and seven years. Whatever a man of firm vows attains there, whether alive or after death, he moves about at will, just so, without any doubt. Abandoning all attachments, he goes to my world. There, a single stream always falls, remaining of one form. In the Kubjāmra grove, there is the supreme place called Saptasāmudraka. A man who bathes there attains the fruit of three Aśvamedha sacrifices. Then, having fallen from heaven, a twice-born with lineage is reborn. Or, if here, one who is free from attachment and has mastered the senses departs from life. Now, O beautiful one, I will tell you the mark of that sacred place; listen well.
