सुरभीणी निवेद्येत्थं विज्ञाप्यो मधुसूदनः
One should offer fragrant things in this way and make supplication to Madhusūdana.
तथास्त्वशून्यं शयनं सदैव अस्माकमेवेह तव प्रसादात्
Thus, may our bed never be empty here, always by your grace.
सत्येन तेनामितवीर्य विष्णो गार्हस्थ्यनाशो मम नास्तु देव
By truth, O immeasurably powerful Vishnu, may the destruction of my household life not occur, O Lord.
नक्तां भुञ्जीत देवर्षे तैलक्षारविवर्जितमट्
At night, O divine sage, one should eat food free from oil and alkaline substances.
लक्ष्मीधरः प्रीयतां मे इत्युच्चार्य निवेदयेत्
Reciting 'May Lakshmi's bearer be pleased with me,' one should offer the oblation.
यावद् चवृश्चिकराशिस्थः प्रतिभाति दिवाकरः
As long as the sun appears among heaps of scorpions, so long—
तुलास्थेर्ऽके हरिः कामः शिवः पश्चाद्विबुध्यते
When the sun is in Libra, Hari desires; afterwards, Shiva awakens.
सशय्यास्तरणोपेता यथा विभवमात्मनः
With bedding and coverings, according to one's own means—
यस्मिंश् चीर्णे वियोगस्तु न भवेदिह कस्यचित्
When this is performed, separation does not occur for anyone here.
युक्ता मृगशिरेणैव सा तु कालाष्टमी स्मृता
When joined with Mrigashira, that is remembered as the eighth lunar day of the proper time.
वसते संनिधाने तु तत्र पूजाक्षया स्मृता
Dwelling in the sanctuary there is remembered as the inexhaustible worship.
स्नातः संपूजयेत् पुष्पैर्धत्तूरस्य त्रिलोचनम्
Having bathed, one should worship the three-eyed one with flowers of the thorn-apple.
विप्राय दद्यान्नैवेद्यं सहिरण्यं द्विजोत्तम
One should give the offering to a Brahmin, along with gold, O best of twice-born.
धूपयेत् सर्जनिर्यासं नैवेद्यं मधुमोदकैः
One should offer incense of sarja resin and the oblation with honey and sweet drinks.
प्रीयतां मे हिरण्याक्षो दक्षिणा सतिला स्मृता
May Hiranyaksha be pleased with me; the prescribed gift is sesame.
धुपं श्रीवासनिर्यासं नैवेद्यं मधुपायसम्
Incense of shri-vasana resin, and the oblation is honey-rice pudding.
प्रीयतां गवान् स्थासुरिति वाच्यमनिष्ठुरम्
May the stationary among cows be pleased with me—this should be spoken without harshness.
मासि मार्गशिरे स्नानं दध्नार्चा भद्रया स्मृता
In the month of Margashirsha, bathing and worship with curd is remembered as auspicious.
नमो ऽस्तु प्रीयतां शर्वस्त्विति वाच्यं च पण्डितैः
Salutations! May Sharva be pleased—this should be spoken by the learned.
धूपो मधुकनिर्यासो नैवेद्यं मधु शष्कुली
Incense of honey resin, and the oblation is honey and sweet cakes.
वाच्यं नमस्ते देवेश त्र्यम्बकेति प्रकीर्तयेत्
One should address you, O Lord of the gods, by proclaiming 'Obeisance to you, O Three-eyed One.'
धूपः पदम्बनिर्यासो नैवेद्यं सतिलोदनम्
Incense, the offering of sandal paste to the feet, and food offering of rice mixed with sesame should be presented.
प्रीयतां मे महादेव उमापतिरितीरयेत्
One should say, 'May the great god, the consort of Uma, be pleased with me.'
पारणान्ते त्रिनेत्रस्य स्नपनं कारयेत्क्रमात्
At the conclusion of the fast, one should perform the ceremonial bathing of the Three-eyed One in due order.
प्रीयस्व दीनो ऽस्मि भवन्तमीश मच्छोकनाशं प्रकुरुष्व योग्यम्
Be gracious; I am afflicted. O Lord, please remove my sorrow as is fitting.
उपवासं समुदीतं कर्तव्यं द्विजसत्तम
The observance of the fast, O best of twice-born, should be duly performed.
पूजयेत्कुन्दकुसुमैर्धूपयेत् चन्दनं त्वपि
One should worship with jasmine flowers and also offer incense and sandalwood.
वासोयुगं प्रीणयेच्च रुद्रमुच्चार्य नामतः
One should please Rudra with a pair of garments, reciting his names.
गुग्गुलुं महिषाख्यं च घृताक्तं धूपयेद् बुधः
A wise person should offer incense of guggulu and buffalo dung mixed with ghee.
दक्षिणा च सनैवेद्यं सृगाजिनमुदाहृतम्
A gift, along with the food offering and a deer skin, is prescribed.
