Tell me, for the worship of the two gods, Hari and Īśa, how it is done.
For the worship of Śarva and the wise Keśava,
Then the lord of the gods, husband of Śrī, sleeps upon the serpent’s coils.
And the mothers of the gods also, one after another, have fallen asleep.
With all things in their proper order, one should first honor Janārdana.
On the eleventh day, the Lord of the universe should be laid to rest.
Having donned the sacred thread and duly worshipped the twice-born,
Clad in yellow garments, having received blessings, he should be led to sleep.
On a bed adorned with the fragrant flowers of the kadamba tree,
With a golden lotus fashioned and a soft, well-spread cushion,
And with a tiger skin and a bundle of matted locks tied together as bedding,
Then, for the gods, the night begins; it is the southern course of the sun.
He sleeps upon the couch, showing to the worlds the supreme path.
On the fifth day, Vināyaka is honored; on the same day, so is Dharmarāja.
On the eighth, Kātyāyanī; on the ninth, the Lady of the Lotus abode.
On the eleventh day of the dark fortnight, O Brahman, the Sādhyās also sleep.
As the gods sleep there, the season of the rains arrives.
And the crows, heavy with young in that season, also sleep.
That second day is auspicious and holy, known as the awakening from an unempty bed.
Seated on the couch, together with Lakṣmī, with fragrance and flowers, O sage,
One should offer fragrant things in this way and make supplication to Madhusūdana.
Thus, may our bed never be empty here, always by your grace.
By truth, O immeasurably powerful Vishnu, may the destruction of my household life not occur, O Lord.
At night, O divine sage, one should eat food free from oil and alkaline substances.
Reciting 'May Lakshmi's bearer be pleased with me,' one should offer the oblation.
As long as the sun appears among heaps of scorpions, so long—
When the sun is in Libra, Hari desires; afterwards, Shiva awakens.
With bedding and coverings, according to one's own means—
When this is performed, separation does not occur for anyone here.
When joined with Mrigashira, that is remembered as the eighth lunar day of the proper time.
