They are thrown into the dreadful Raurava hell, burning up to their knees.
For them, balls of heated iron are cast into their mouths, astonishing to behold.
Those who observe and utter slander against sinners—
Are pierced in their ears by the servants of Dharmarāja.
Those who break and destroy wells, ponds, and reservoirs—

Are cut with very sharp, dreadful knives by the servants of Yama.
For them, even their intestines are torn out at the anus by crows.
In times of famine or confusion, they are thrown among food meant for dogs.

Those who are tormented by mechanical devices are struck and beaten by the servants.
They are crushed in stone mills and dried out by desiccators.
Emaciated, with dry palates and lips, they are cast into a pit of scorpions.
They embrace the Śālmalī tree, its spikes heated by fire.
And whoever is their teacher must carry a stone on his head.
They fall into filth and urine, filled with foul stench and pus.

Foolish ones devour each other's flesh.
He who eats the offerings of a miscarriage, or who consumes worms and ants,
—the officiating priest and the sacrificer—both become gross insects among us.
They are thrown to be devoured by wolves in hell, O night-wanderer.
Likewise, those who steal cows or land, and those who kill cows, women, or children—
Those who sell Soma, and likewise those who sell the Vedas,
And those who give false testimony—these all dwell in the great Raurava hell.

For so long, they remain in Andhatamisra and then in the forest of sword-leaves.
A precipice appears for those by whom these evil deeds were done.
All these have been described in order—those who are ungrateful and reviled by the world.
Just as Ananta is foremost among great serpents, and earth is chief among beings,
As the cultivated field is best among lands, and among sacred fords, the broad waters are supreme,
As the abode of Brahmā is preeminent among worlds, and truth among acts prescribed by dharma,
As the Sumbha lineage is foremost among ascetics, and revelation is best among scriptures here,
Just as Manu is foremost among law codes, the new and full moon among lunar days, and giving at solstices,
