तं वृणीष्व महाबाहो प्रदास्याम्यविचारयन्
Choose that, O mighty-armed one; I will grant it without hesitation.
त्वत्पादपङ्कजाभ्यां हि ख्यातिरस्तु सदा मम
May my renown always be through your lotus feet.
अजरश्चामरश्चापि मत्प्रसादाद् भविष्यसि
By my grace, you shall become ageless and immortal.
न कर्मबन्धो भवतो मच्चित्त्स्य भविष्यति
For one whose mind is fixed on me, there will be no bondage of action for you.
स्वजातिसदृशं दैत्य कुरु धर्ममनुत्तमम्
O Daitya, perform supreme righteousness befitting your own lineage.
कथं राज्यं समादास्ये परित्यक्तं जगद्गुरो
How shall I accept the kingdom, O teacher of the world, having renounced it?
हितोपदेष्टा दैत्यानां दानवानां तथा भव
Become the adviser for the welfare of the Daityas and Danavas.
प्रणिपत्य विभुं तुष्टो जगाम नगरं निजम्
Having bowed to the Lord, pleased, he went to his own city.
निमन्त्रितश्च राज्याय न प्रत्यैच्छत्स नारद
Although invited to rule, Narada did not accept the kingdom.
ध्यायन् स्मरन् केशवमप्रमेयं तस्थौ तदा योगविशुद्धदेहः
Meditating and remembering Kesava, the incomprehensible, he stood there, his body purified by yoga.
पराजितश्चापि विमुच्य राज्यं तस्थौ मनो धातरि सन्निवेश्य
Even though defeated, relinquishing the kingdom, he remained, placing his mind in the support of consciousness.
अभिषिक्तो जानतापि राजधर्मं सनातनम्
Though consecrated, knowing the eternal royal duty,
ललो ऽभिषिक्तो दैत्येन प्रह्लादेन निजे पदे
Lalo was consecrated by the Daitya Prahlada in his own position.
देवादिभिः सह कथं समास्ते तद् वदस्व मे
How does he dwell together with the gods and others? Tell me that.
तपसाराध्य देवेशं शूलपाणिं त्रिलोचनम्
By austerity, worshipping the lord of the gods, the wielder of the trident, the three-eyed one,
अदाह्यत्वं हुताशेन अक्लेद्यत्वं जलेन च
He obtained immunity from burning by fire and from wetting by water.
शुक्रं पुरोहितं कृत्वा समध्यास्ते ततो ऽन्धकः
Making Shukra his priest, then Andhaka dwelled in meditation.
आक्रम्य वसुधां सर्वां मनुजेन्द्रान् पराजयत्
Having conquered the whole earth, he defeated the kings of men.
तैः समं मेरुशिखरं जगामाद्भुतदर्शनम्
Together with them, he went to the peak of Meru, a wondrous sight.
समारुह्यामरावत्यां गुप्तिं कृत्वा विनिर्ययौ
Mounting, he made arrangements for protection in Amaravati and departed.
आरुह्य वाहनं स्वं स्वं सायुधा निर्ययुर्बहिः
Mounting their own vehicles, armed, they went forth outside.
निर्जगामातिवेगेन गजवाजिराथादिभिः
They departed with great speed, with elephants, horses, chariots, and others.
यभविद्याधराद्याश्च स्वं स्वं वाहनमास्थिताः
The Vidyadharas and others, each mounted their own vehicle.
एकैकस्यापि धर्मत्र परं कौतूहलं मम
Even regarding the duty of each one, I have great curiosity.
वाहनानि समासेन एकैकस्यानुपूर्वशः
Now, in brief and in order, the vehicles of each are described.
श्वेतवर्णो गजपतिर्देवराजस्य वाहनम्
The lord of elephants, white in color, is the vehicle of the king of the gods.
पौण्ड्रको नाम महिषो धर्मराजस्य नारद
A buffalo named Pauṇḍraka is the vehicle of the lord of Dharma, O Nārada.
शिशुमारो दिव्यगतिः वाहनं वरुणस्य च
The divine-moving Śiśumāra is the vehicle of Varuṇa.
अम्बिकापादसंभूतो वाहनं धनदस्य तु
