तं पराजेष्यसे भक्त्या तस्माच्छुश्रूष धर्मजम्
You will defeat him through devotion; therefore, serve Dharmaja.
अब्रवीद्वचनं हृष्टः समाहूयान्धकं मुनेष
Joyful, he summoned Andhaka and spoke these words, O sage:
मयोत्सृष्टमिदं राज्यं प्रतीच्छस्व महाभुज
This kingdom, relinquished by me, accept it, O mighty-armed one.
प्रह्लादो ऽपि तदागच्छत् पुण्यं बदरिकाश्रमम्
Prahlāda also then came to the sacred hermitage of Badarikā.
कृताञ्जलिपुटो भूत्वा ववन्दे चरणौ तयोः
With hands joined in reverence, he bowed at their feet.
किमर्थं प्रणतो ऽसीह मामजित्वा महासुर
For what reason have you bowed here, O great demon, without conquering me?
त्वं हि नारायणो ऽनन्तः पीतवासा जनार्दनः
For you are Nārāyaṇa, the infinite one, clad in yellow, O Janārdana.
त्वमव्ययो महेशानः शाश्वतः पुरुषोत्तमः
You are the imperishable, the great lord, the eternal, the supreme person.
जपन्ति स्नातकास्त्वां च यजन्ति त्वां च याज्ञिकाः
The learned, having completed their studies, recite your name, and those engaged in sacrifice worship you.
महामीनो हयशिरास्त्वमेव वरकच्छपः
You are the great fish, the horse-headed one, and indeed the noble tortoise.
मत्पितुर्नाशनकरो भवानपि नृकेसरी
You, too, are the man-lion who destroyed my father.
सूर्यो मृगाङ्को ऽचलजङ्गमाद्यो भवान् विभो नाथ खगेन्द्रकेतो
You are the sun, the moon, the origin of all that is immovable and movable, O Lord, master, banner of the king of birds.
त्वया व्याप्तं जगत्सर्वं कस्त्वां जेष्यति माधव
The entire universe is pervaded by you; who could conquer you, O Mādhava?
नान्यथा त्वं प्रशक्तो ऽसि जेतुं सर्वगताव्यय
Otherwise, you are not able to be conquered, O all-pervading, imperishable one.
भक्त्या त्वनान्यया चाहं त्वया दैत्य पराजितः
By exclusive devotion, I have been defeated by you, O Daitya.
दण्डार्थं ते प्रदास्यामि वरं वृणु यमिच्छसि
For the sake of punishment, I will grant you a boon; choose whatever you desire.
तन्मे पापं लयं यातु शारीरं मानसं तथा
Let my sin be destroyed—both bodily and mental.
नरेण यद्यप्यभवद् वरमेतत्प्रयच्छ मे
Even if this boon has been granted to a man, bestow it upon me.
द्वितीयं प्रार्थय वरं तं ददामि तवासुर
Ask for a second boon; that I will give you, O Asura.
देवार्चने च निरता त्वच्चित्ता त्वत्परायणा
Let those devoted to worshipping the gods, whose minds are fixed on you, who are dedicated to you—
तं वृणीष्व महाबाहो प्रदास्याम्यविचारयन्
Choose that, O mighty-armed one; I will grant it without hesitation.
त्वत्पादपङ्कजाभ्यां हि ख्यातिरस्तु सदा मम
May my renown always be through your lotus feet.
अजरश्चामरश्चापि मत्प्रसादाद् भविष्यसि
By my grace, you shall become ageless and immortal.
न कर्मबन्धो भवतो मच्चित्त्स्य भविष्यति
For one whose mind is fixed on me, there will be no bondage of action for you.
स्वजातिसदृशं दैत्य कुरु धर्ममनुत्तमम्
O Daitya, perform supreme righteousness befitting your own lineage.
कथं राज्यं समादास्ये परित्यक्तं जगद्गुरो
How shall I accept the kingdom, O teacher of the world, having renounced it?
हितोपदेष्टा दैत्यानां दानवानां तथा भव
Become the adviser for the welfare of the Daityas and Danavas.
प्रणिपत्य विभुं तुष्टो जगाम नगरं निजम्
Having bowed to the Lord, pleased, he went to his own city.
निमन्त्रितश्च राज्याय न प्रत्यैच्छत्स नारद
Although invited to rule, Narada did not accept the kingdom.
ध्यायन् स्मरन् केशवमप्रमेयं तस्थौ तदा योगविशुद्धदेहः
Meditating and remembering Kesava, the incomprehensible, he stood there, his body purified by yoga.
