ते यान्ति नियतं स्थानं यत्र योगेश्वरो हरिः
They surely reach the abode where Hari, the lord of yoga, resides.
सा तु जन्मसहस्रेण न तपोभिरवाप्यते
That place cannot be attained by austerities, even in a thousand births.
यस्य नास्ति परा भक्तिः सततं मधुसूदने
For one who does not have supreme devotion to Madhusudana at all times—
वृथा तपश्च कीर्तिश्च यो द्वेष्टि मधुसूदनम्
For one who hates Madhusudana, austerity and fame are in vain.
नमो नारायणायेति मन्त्रः सर्वार्थसाधकः
The mantra 'Salutations to Narayana' accomplishes all purposes.
येषामिन्दीवरश्यामो हृदयस्थो जनार्दनः
Those in whose hearts Janardana, dark as a blue lotus, dwells—
नारायणं नमस्कृत्य सर्वकर्माणि कारयेत्
Having bowed to Narayana, one should perform all actions.
ते नाम स्मरणाद्विष्णोर्नासं यान्ति महासुर
By remembering the name of Vishnu, they do not go to ruin, O great asura.
नारायणप्रणामस्य कलां नार्हन्ति षोडशीम्
Even sixteen parts do not equal the merit of saluting Narayana.
तानि सर्वाण्यवाप्नोति विष्णोर्नामानुकीर्तनात्
By reciting the names of Vishnu, one attains all those things.
प्राप्यन्ते ये तु कृष्णस्य नमस्कारपरैर्न रैः
Those rewards attained by those devoted to bowing to Krishna are not obtained by others.
सुचीर्णतपसां नॄणां तता फलं न कदाचन
The fruit of long-performed austerities never comes to those men.
ते लभन्त्युपवासस्य फलं नासत्यत्र संशयः
They obtain the fruit of fasting—there is no doubt about this.
तत्प्रसादात् परां सिद्धिं बले प्राप्स्यसि शाश्वतीम्
By his grace, you will attain supreme and everlasting success, O Bali.
तमेवाश्रित्य देवेशं सुखं प्राप्यसि पुत्रक
Taking refuge in that Lord of the gods, you will find happiness, my son.
सर्वत्रगं शुभदं ब्रह्ममयं पुराणम् ते यान्ति वैष्णवपदं ध्रुवमक्षयञ्च
Those who attain the eternal, indestructible Vaishnava state go to the all-pervading, auspicious, ancient, Brahman-filled abode.
ते धौतपाण्डुरपुटा इव राजहंसाः संसारसागरजलस्य तरन्ति पारम्
They, with wings washed white like royal swans, cross over the waters of the ocean of worldly existence.
ध्यानेन तेन हतकिल्बषवेदनास्ते मातुः पयोधररसं न पुनः पिबन्ति
By that meditation, freed from the pain of sin, they do not drink again the essence of their mother's breast.
पद्मालयावदनपङ्कजषट्पदाख्यं नूनं प्रयान्ति सदनं मधुघातिनस्ते
They surely go to the abode of the destroyer of Madhu, called the lotus-home of Lakshmi's face and the gathering of bees.
ते मुक्तपापाः सुखिनो भवन्ति यथामृतप्राशनतर्पितास्तु
Freed from sin, they become happy, just as those satisfied by tasting nectar.
कार्यं विष्णोः श्रद्दधानैर्मनुष्यैः पूजातुल्यं तत् प्रशंसन्ति देवा
The work of Vishnu, performed with faith by men, is praised by the gods as equal to worship.
पुष्पैश्च पत्रैर्जलपल्लवादिभिर्नूनं स मुष्टो विधितस्करेण
With flowers, leaves, water, shoots, and the like, he is surely gratified, even if the offering is small or stolen by fate.
या गतिः प्राप्यते लोके तां मे वक्तुमिहार्हसि
You ought to tell me here what state is attained in this world.
कानि दानानि शस्तानि प्रीणनाय जगद्गुरोः
Which gifts are best for pleasing the Guru of the world?
कानि पुण्यानि शस्तानि विष्णोस्तुष्टिप्रदानि वै
Which meritorious acts are best and truly pleasing to Vishnu?
तदप्यशेषं दैत्येन्द्र ममाख्यातुमिहार्हसि
O lord of the Daityas, you should tell me all this as well.
बले दानानि दीयन्ते तानूचुर्मुनयो ऽक्षयान्
The gifts given by Bali are declared by the sages to be inexhaustible.
तच्चित्तस्तन्मयो भूत्वा उपवासी नरो भवेत्
With mind fixed on that, becoming one with that, a man should undertake fasting.
एतान् द्विषन्ति ये मूढास्ते यान्ति नरकं ध्रुवम्
Those fools who hate these certainly go to hell.
एवमाह हरिः पूर्वं ब्राह्मणा मामकी तनुः
Thus, Hari formerly said: 'The brāhmaṇas are my own body.'
