ध्यायन्ति वासुदेवाख्यं तमस्मि शरणं गतः
I have taken refuge in him who is called Vasudeva, whom the meditative contemplate.
वासुदेवं परं ब्रह्म तमस्मि शरणं गतः
I have taken refuge in Vasudeva, the supreme Brahman.
कर्मक्षये ऽक्षयं देवं तमस्मि शरणं गतः
I have taken refuge in the imperishable god at the end of action.
न योगिनः प्राप्नुवन्ति तमस्मि शरणं गतः
I have taken refuge in him whom even yogis do not attain.
यः सृजत्यच्युतो देवस्तमस्मि शरणं गतः
I have taken refuge in that imperishable Lord who creates.
प्रभुः पुरातनो जज्ञे तमस्मि शरणं गतः
I have taken refuge in that ancient Master who was born.
स्रष्टृत्वे संस्थितं सृष्टौ प्रणतो ऽस्मि सनातनम्
I bow to the eternal one, established as the creator at the time of creation.
तमादिपुरुषं विष्णुं प्रमतो ऽस्मि जनार्दनम्
I bow to that primeval person, Viṣṇu, the destroyer of beings.
येन तं विष्णुमाद्येशं प्रणतो ऽस्मि जनार्दनम्
I bow to that Viṣṇu, the original Lord, the destroyer of beings.
तं यज्ञपुरुषं विष्णुं प्रणतो ऽस्मि सनातनम्
I bow to that eternal Viṣṇu, the person of sacrifice.
तमन्तपुरुषं रुद्रं प्रणतो ऽस्मि सनातनम्
I bow to that eternal Rudra, the inner person.
यो वै नृत्यति रुद्रात्मा प्रणतो ऽस्मि जनार्दनम्
I bow to that destroyer of beings, whose essence is Rudra, who indeed dances.
संभूता यस्य देवस्य सर्वगं तं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to that all-pervading Lord from whom all have arisen.
यस्यांशभूता देवस्य सर्वगं तं नतो ऽस्मयहम्
I bow to that all-pervading Lord, of whom all are portions.
एकांशभूता देवस्य सर्वगं तं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to that all-pervading Lord, of whom all are but a single portion.
यः सर्वमध्यगो ऽनन्तः सर्वगं तं नमाम्यहम्
I bow to that all-pervading infinite one who abides in the midst of all.
विष्णुरेवं तथा पापं ममाशेषं प्रणश्यतु
Thus, by Viṣṇu, may all my sins be destroyed.
यच्च ज्ञानपरिच्छेद्यं पापं नश्यतु मे तथा
And may the sin that is discerned by knowledge likewise perish for me.
अनेकजन्मकर्मोत्थं पापं नश्यतु मे तथा
And may the sin arising from actions over many births likewise perish for me.
संध्ययोश्च कृतं पापं कर्मणा मनसा गिरा
The sin committed at the junctions of the day, by deed, mind, or speech—
कृतं यदशुभं कर्म कायेन मनसा गिरा
Whatever inauspicious act has been done by body, mind, or speech—
तत् क्षिप्रं विलयं यातु वासुदेवस्य कीर्तनात्
May that quickly come to dissolution through the praise of Vāsudeva.
परपीडोद्भवां निन्दां कुर्वता यन्महात्मनाम्
The reproach that arises from harming others, when directed at great souls,
तद् यातु विलयं तोये यथा लवणभाजनम्
Let that be dissolved in water, just as a vessel of salt disappears.
वयःपरिणतौ यच्च यच्च जन्मातरे कृतम्
Whatever was done in other births, and whatever was done in the course of life,
प्रयातु विलयं तोये यथा लवणभाजनम्
Let it be dissolved in water, just as a vessel of salt disappears.
जनार्दनाय कृष्णाय नमो भूयो नमो नमः
Salutations again and again to Janārdana, to Kṛṣṇa.
अरिष्टकेशिचणूरदेवारिक्षयिणे नमः
Salutations to Him who slew Ariṣṭa, Keśi, Caṇūra, and the enemies of the gods.
को ऽन्यो नाशयति बलाद् दर्पं हैहयभूपतेः
Who else can forcibly destroy the pride of the king of the Haihayas?
वधिष्यति दशग्रीवं कः सामात्यपुरःसरम्
Who will slay Daśagrīva, together with his ministers and city?
