'Go forth; seven sons will be born, but not one who is auspicious.'
Having thus spoken, all the great sages departed.
After a long time, she, the beloved queen of the king,
While his wife was pregnant, that lord of men died.
Though restrained by his ministers at that time, he did not desist.

Then, O sage, from the midst of the fire, a piece of flesh fell into the water.
Then, O Maruta, they were born in the interval between Uttama and Manu.
I shall recount them, who delighted in song, dance, and play.

Desiring a son, he offered his own flesh and blood into the fire.

And the king, for the sake of a son, offered semen and variegated cows, as we have heard.

There was a voice, 'Do not cast me,' yet the king died.

The children were born, O sage, and they wept.

Having come together, he restrained and then acted upon the sons of Marut.
Hear now, O sage devoted to austerity, who were born in the Raivata period.
He became known as Ripujit, but indeed he had no son.
He took the maiden Surati, and, having seized her, went home.
She, afflicted in body by sorrow, was intent on abandoning her own form.
All the ascetics became attached in mind to her.
And those sages, their minds thus absorbed, beheld her.
They departed, and from the fire seven sons were born.
Having restrained them, the lord of the worlds acted upon the hosts of Maruts.
Listen, I shall recount to you what occurred in the interval of Cākṣuṣa Manu.
At the holy place of the seven Sarasvatis, he performed great austerity.
She too, approaching the riverbank, began to disturb him, O beautiful one.
And the sage Maṅkaṇaka cursed that deluded woman.
A horse will destroy you at the sacrificial assembly.
From the seven Sarasvatis, seven Maruts indeed were born.
Hearing of whose birth, sin is destroyed and great righteousness arises.
Prahāda was the giver of mantras, and Śukra was the family priest.
All the assemblies indeed came together, desiring to see.
