भृङ्गिनं दर्शयामास ध्रुवं नैषो ऽन्धकति हि
He showed Bhṛṅgī, saying, 'This is certainly not Andhaka.'
गणाधिपत्यमापन्नं प्रशशंसुर्वृषध्वजम्
They praised the bull-bannered one, who had attained the leadership of the attendants.
गच्छध्वं स्वानि धिष्ण्यानि भुञ्जध्वं त्रिदिवं सुखम्
Go to your own abodes; enjoy happiness in heaven.
तत्र स्वकार्यं कृत्वैव पश्चाद् यातु त्रिविष्टपम्
There, having accomplished your own tasks, afterwards proceed to the highest heaven.
ते विसृष्टा महेशेन सुरा जग्मुस्त्रक्षिविष्टपम्
Released by Maheśa, the gods went to their celestial realms.
गतेषु शक्रपाग्र्येषु देवेषु भगवाञ्चिशवः
When the foremost of the gods, led by Śakra, had departed, the blessed Śiva—
गणाश्च शङ्करं दृष्ट्वा स्वं स्वं वाहनमास्थिताः
And the attendants, seeing Śaṅkara, mounted their respective vehicles.
यत्र कामदुधा गावः सर्वकामफलद्रुमाः
Where wish-fulfilling cows and trees yielding all desires are found—
स्वां स्वां गतिं प्रयातेषु प्रमथेषु महेश्वरः
When the attendants had gone their own ways, Maheśvara—
द्वाभ्यां वर्षसहस्राभ्यां पुनरागाद्वरो गृह्म्
After two thousand years, the boon-holder returned.
समायातं निरीक्ष्यैव सर्वलक्षणसंयुतम्
Seeing him arrived, endowed with all marks and features—
समाहूताश्च देव्या ता जयाद्यास्तूर्ममागमन्
Summoned by the goddess, Jaya and the others came swiftly.
ततस्त्रिनेत्रो गिरिजां दृष्ट्वा प्रेक्ष्य च दानवम्
Then the three-eyed one, seeing Girijā and also the demon—
अथोवाचैष दासस्ते कृतो देवि मयान्धकः
He spoke: 'O goddess, this Andhaka has been made your servant by me.'
इत्युच्चार्यान्धकं चैव पुत्र पह्येहि सत्वरम्
Thus, uttering these words: 'O son, quickly destroy Andhaka.'
इत्युक्तो विभुना नन्दी अन्धकश्च गणेश्वरः
So addressed by the Lord, Nandi and Andhaka, the chief of the hosts,
स्तुतिं चक्रे महापुण्यां पापघ्नीं श्रुतीसंमिताम्
Performed a praise, most meritorious, sin-destroying, and in accord with the scriptures.
प्राह पुत्र प्रसन्नास्मि वृणुष्व परमुत्तमम्
He spoke: 'Son, I am pleased. Ask for the highest boon.'
तथेश्वरे च सततं भक्तिरस्तु ममाम्विके
So may devotion to the Lord and to you, O Ambika, always be mine.
स चास्ते पूजयञ्शर्वं गणानामधिपो ऽभवत्
He remained, worshipping Śarva, and became the lord of the hosts.
कृत्वैव रूपं भयदं च भैरवं भृङ्गित्वमीसेन कृतं स्वभक्त्या
Having assumed a form that inspires fear, Bhairava, the lord, made it by his own devotion.
संकीर्तनीयं द्विजसत्तमेषु धर्मायुरारोग्यधनैषिणा सदा
It is to be recited among the best of twice-born, by those seeking righteousness, long life, health, and wealth, always.
निष्पादितं स्वकं कार्यं तन्मे व्याख्यातुमर्हसि
My own task has been accomplished; you ought to explain it to me.
कृतं लोकहितं ब्रह्मन्नात्मनश्च तथा हितम्
O Brahman, what has been done is for the welfare of the world and likewise for oneself.
ते निर्जिताः सुरगणैः पातालगमनोत्सुकाः
Those were defeated by the hosts of gods, eager to go to the netherworld.
लतावितासंछन्नं मत्तसत्त्वसमाकुलम्
Covered by creepers and filled with intoxicated beings.
माधवीकुसुमामोदं ऋष्यर्चितहरं गिरिम्
The mountain, fragrant with mādhavī blossoms, worshipped by sages and pleasing to Hara.
मयतारपुरोगास्ते निवासं समरोचयन्
Led by Maya and Tāra, they chose that place for their dwelling.
विवाति शीतः शनकैर्दक्षिणो गन्धसंयुतः
The southern wind blows gently, cool and mixed with fragrance.
कुर्वन्तो लोकसंपूज्ये विद्धेषं देवतागणे
Performing acts worthy of universal honor among the hosts of gods.
