भार्गवं त्वावृततनुं जठरे स न्यवेशयत्
He placed Bhargava, whose body was enveloped, into his own belly.
तुष्टाव भगवान्तं तं मुनिर्वाग्भिरथादरात्
Then the sage praised that Blessed One with words of reverence.
शङ्कराय महेशाय त्र्यम्बकाय नमो नमः
Salutations again and again to Shankara, the Great Lord, the Three-Eyed One.
मदनाग्ने कालशत्रो वामदेवाय ते नमः
Obeisance to you, O Fire of Desire, Foe of Time, Vamadeva.
महादेवाय शर्वाय ईश्वराय नमो नमः
Salutations again and again to Mahadeva, Sharva, the Lord.
स प्राह देववर देहि वरं ममाद्य यद्वै तवैव जठरात् प्रतिनिर्गमो ऽस्तु
He said: 'O best of gods, grant me this boon today—that I may emerge again from your very belly.'
इत्युक्तमात्रो विभुना चचार देवोदरे भार्गवपुङ्गवस्तु
As soon as the Lord spoke thus, the foremost Bhargava moved about within the god's belly.
भुवनार्णवपातालान् वृतान् स्थावरजङ्मैः
He saw the oceans, the underworlds, all filled with stationary and moving beings.
यक्षान् किंपुरुषाद्यादीन् गन्धर्वाप्सरसां गणान्
The hosts of Yakshas, Kimpurushas, and others, as well as the groups of Gandharvas and Apsaras,
वृक्षगुल्मान् गिरीन् वल्ल्यः फलमूलौषधानि च
Trees, shrubs, mountains, vines, fruits, roots, and medicinal herbs,
चतुष्पदान् सद्विपदान् स्थावरान् जङ्गमानपि
All four-footed and two-footed beings, the stationary and the moving as well,
तत्रासतो भार्गवस्य दिव्यः संवत्सरो गतः
There, a divine year of the Bhargava passed in that place.
भिक्तिनम्रो महादेवं शरणं समुपागम्
Bending for alms, he approached the great god for refuge.
सहस्राक्ष महादेव त्वामहं शरणं गतः
O thousand-eyed great god, I have come to you for shelter.
दृष्ट्वैव सर्वान् भुवनांस्तवोदरे श्रान्तो भवन्तं शरणं प्रपन्नः
Having seen all the worlds within your body, I am weary and have sought refuge in you.
निर्गच्छ पुत्रो ऽसि ममाधुना त्वं शिश्नेन भो भार्गववंशचन्द्र
Come forth, you are now my son, O Bhargava lineage's moon, by the organ, indeed.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा भगवान् मुमोच शिश्नेन शुक्रं स च निर्जगाम
Having thus spoken, the Blessed Lord released Shukra by the organ, and he emerged.
प्रणम्य शंभुं स जगाम तूर्ण महासुराणां बलमुत्तमौजाः
Having bowed to Shambhu, he swiftly went to the army of the great Asuras, full of might.
पुनर्युद्धाय विदधुर्मतिं सह गणेश्वरैः
Again, they resolved upon battle together with the lords of the hosts.
युयुधुः संकुलं युद्धं सर्व एव जयेप्सवः
All of them, desiring victory, fought a tumultuous battle.
द्वन्द्वयुद्धूं समभवद् घोररूपं तपोधन
A terrible duel took place, O ascetic rich in austerity.
कुम्भध्वजं बलिर्धीमान् नन्दिषेणं विरोचनः
Bali, the wise, fought Kumbhadhvaja; Virocana fought Nandishena.
वाणस्तथा नैगमेयं बलं राक्षसपुङ्गवः
Vana, the foremost of Rakshasas, fought Naigameya Bala.
दुर्योधनश्च बलिनं घण्टाकर्णमयोधयत्
Duryodhana, too, fought the mighty Ghantakarna.
संयोधयन्ति देवर्षे दिव्याब्दानां शतनि षट्
O sage among the gods, they fought for six hundred divine years.
वारयामास बलवान् जम्भो नाम महासुरः
The powerful great Asura named Jambha restrained them.
महौजसं कुजम्भश्च विष्णुं दैत्यान्तकारिणम्
Kujambha, of great might, opposed Vishnu, the destroyer of demons.
द्विमूर्धा पवनं सोमं राहुर्मित्रं विरूपधृक्
Dvimurdha confronted Pavana, Soma, Rahu, Mitra, and Virupadhrit.
अष्टावेव महेष्वासान् वारयामासुराहवे
All eight mighty archers resisted in battle.
वातापि चेल्वलश्चैव नानाशस्त्रास्त्रयोधिनः
Vatapi and Celvala, skilled in various weapons and missiles, fought.
