ततस्तदद्भुततमं दृष्ट्वा शैवादयो गणाः
Then, upon seeing that most wondrous event, the hosts of Shiva and the others,
यदाभिन्नममन्यन्त देवेदेवं सदाशिवम्
when they regarded the god of gods, Sadashiva, as undivided,
तेष्वेवं धूतपापेषु अभिन्नेषु हरीश्वरः
among those whose sins had been cleansed, who were now undivided, the Lord Hari,
परितुष्टो ऽस्मि वः सर्वे ज्ञानेनानेन सुव्रताः
said, 'I am pleased with you all, O virtuous ones, because of this knowledge.'
भिन्नदृष्ट्युद्भवं पापं यत्तद् भ्रंशं प्रयातु नः
May the sin that arises from the perception of division depart from us.
संपरिष्वजताव्यक्तस्तान् सर्वान् गणयूथपान्
The Unmanifest One embraced all the leaders of the hosts.
श्रुतिगदितानुगमेनेव मन्दरं गिरिमवतत्य समध्यवसन्तम्
Just as the Mandara mountain, following the course described in the scriptures, settled in the midst,
नीलाजिनातततनुः शरदभ्रवर्णो यद्वद् विभाति बलवान् वृषभो हरस्य
so too does the mighty bull of Hara, with a body covered in dark hide and the color of autumn clouds, shine forth.
मन्दरं पर्वतश्रेष्ठं प्रमथाश्रितकन्दरम्
The foremost mountain, Mandara, with caves inhabited by the Pramathas,
प्रमथाश्चापि संरब्धा जघ्नुस्तूर्याण्यनेकशः
and the Pramathas, excited, struck many musical instruments.
शुश्राव वायुमार्गस्थो विघ्नराजो विनायकः
Vinayaka, the lord of obstacles, who was traveling the path of the wind, heard it.
मन्दरं पर्वतश्रेष्ठं ददृशे पितरं तथा
He saw the foremost mountain, Mandara, and also his father.
किं तिष्ठसि जगन्नाथ समुत्तिष्ठ रणोत्सुकः
He said, 'Why do you stand still, Lord of the universe? Arise, eager for battle.'
प्राह यास्ये ऽन्धकं हन्तुं स्थेयमेवाप्रमत्तया
He replied, 'I will go to slay Andhaka; one must remain here, vigilant.'
समीक्ष्य सस्नेहहरं प्राह गच्छ जयान्धकम्
Having looked with affection, Hara said, 'Go, conquer Andhaka.'
प्रतिवन्द्य सुसंप्रीता पादावेवाभ्यवन्दत
With great delight, after bowing in salutation, he reverently touched his feet.
जयां च विजयां चैव जयन्तीं चापराजिताम्
Jayā, Vijayā, Jayantī, and Aparājitā,
रक्षणीया प्रयत्नेन गिरिपुत्री प्रमादतः
must be carefully protected, O daughter of the mountain, with utmost attention.
निर्जगाम गृहात् तुष्टो जयेप्सुः शूलधृग् बली
Satisfied and eager for victory, the mighty wielder of the trident emerged from his house.
समन्तात् परिवार्यैव जयशब्दांश्च चक्रिरे
Surrounding him on all sides, they raised cries of triumph.
शुभानि सौम्यानि सुमङ्गलानि जातानी चिह्नानि जयाय शंभोः
Auspicious, gentle, and fortunate signs appeared for Shambhu's victory.
क्रव्यादसंघाश् च तथामिषैणः प्रयान्ति हृष्टास्तृषितासृगर्थे
Hosts of flesh-eaters and those desiring offerings, thrilled and thirsty for blood, proceeded onward.
शकुनिश् चापि हारीतो मौनी याति पराङ्गमुखः
The green bird, silent, turned away and departed.
शैलादिं प्राह वचनं सस्मितं शशिशेखरः
The moon-crested one, smiling, spoke to the mountain and others.
निमित्तानीह दृस्यन्ते संभूतानि गणेश्वर
Omens are seen here, O lord of the hosts, which have arisen.
कः संदेहो महादेव यत् त्वं जयसि शात्रवान्
What doubt is there, O Mahadeva, that you will conquer your enemies?
समादिदेश युद्धाय महापशुपतैः सह
He ordered battle with the great lords of beasts.
नानाशस्त्रधरा वीरा वृक्षानशनयो यथा
Heroes bearing various weapons advanced like trees uprooted.
प्रवृत्ताः प्रमथान् हन्तुं कूटमुद्गरपाणयः
They set out to slay the Pramathas, wielding spiked clubs.
ससूर्याग्निपुरोगास्तु समायाता दिदृक्षवः
With the Sun and Fire at their head, they arrived, eager to witness.
