By you, my son was bound among the roots of the banyan tree.
Then, by this king, the branches of the tree were split into three.
For a hundred decades, he carried the branch but did not move.
Hearing the sage’s words, the monkey released the matted locks of Jābāli's son.
Then the delighted best of sages, Ṛtadhvaja, became a granter of boons.
Hearing Ṛtadhvaja’s words, he requested this boon:
O Brahman, if you wish to grant me a boon,
O ascetic, make me the father of Citrāṅgadā, the daughter of Tvaṣṭṛ.
And many sins have indeed been committed by me.
Then Ṛtadhvaja said: The curse shall have an end.
Thus addressed, the monkey-elephant was filled with joy at that time.
Then all of them, in due order, bathed and worshipped the ancestors and the gods.
That swift and mighty monkey, foremost among leapers, followed her closely.
And she, upon seeing that monkey-elephant, the best among the strong, at once—
Then the monkey, on the renowned and tumultuous mountain peak—
Thus, after enjoying themselves for a long time, they reached Mount Vindhya.
At midday, delighted, they drank the water of the sevenfold Godāvarī.
Their charioteers bathed the horses, who had drunk and plunged into the water.
In the grassy, lush regions, the steeds, after a short while—
Hearing the thunder of the horses' hooves, those excellent women—
Mounting the strong rampart, they all gazed out together.
Suratha, smiling, spoke to her friend, her body thrilled with delight.
Surely, that very son of the king, whom I formerly chose as husband—
He is indeed the foremost among the suffering, Ṛtadhvaja; there is no doubt about it.
This is another, his own son, Jāvali; there is no uncertainty here.
Sitting before Śambhu, they sang an auspicious song.
To see the maker of the three worlds, Tryambaka, Lord of Hāṭakeśvara—
Standing before him, they sang the most excellent song.
Seeing this, his heart filled with joy, and his body shone with hairs standing on end.
Recognizing him, the yogic soul appeared with a delighted mind.
