तप्तकृच्छ्ररहस्यं वै चक्रुः शक्रपुरोगमाः
The gods, led by Indra, performed the secret of the heated penance.
विमुक्तपापा देवेशं वासुदेवमथाब्रुवन्
Freed from sin, they addressed Lord Vāsudeva, the Lord of the gods.
यं क्षीराद्यभिषेकेण स्नापयामो विधानतः
By the prescribed rite, whom do we bathe with milk and other substances?
मद्देहे किं न पश्यध्वं योगाश्चायं प्रतिष्ठितः
Why do you not see in my body the yogic powers established here?
सत्यं वद सुरेशान महेशानः क्व तिष्ठति
Speak the truth, O Lord of the gods: where does the great Lord abide?
दर्शयामास देवानां मुरारिर्लिङ्गमैश्वरम्
Murāri revealed to the gods the divine liṅga of sovereignty.
स्नापयाञ्चक्रिरे लिङ्गं शाश्वतं ध्रुवमव्ययम्
They bathed the eternal, unchanging, imperishable liṅga.
बिल्वपत्राम्बुजैर्देवं पूजयामासुरञ्जसा
With bilva leaves and lotuses, they worshipped the Lord with devotion.
जप्त्वाष्टशतनामानं प्रणामं चक्रिरे ततः
Having recited the eight hundred names, they then offered their salutations.
कथं योगत्वमापन्नौ सत्त्वान्धतमसोद्भवौ
How did those beings, born of darkness and ignorance, attain yogic power?
सर्वलक्षणसंयुक्तः सर्वायुधधरो ऽव्ययः
He is endowed with all marks, bears all weapons, and is imperishable.
समाधवं हारभुजङ्गवक्षसं पीताजिनाच्छन्नकटिप्रदेशम्
He is adorned with a garland, with serpent ornaments on his chest, and his waist is covered with a yellow deer skin.
कपर्दखट्वाङ्गकपालघण्टासशङ्खटङ्काररवं महर्षे
O great sage, the sound of kaparda shells, clubs, skulls, bells, and conch shells resounded.
प्रोक्त्वा प्रणामं कमलासनाद्याश्चक्रुर्मतिं चैकतरां नियुज्य
After speaking, the lotus-seated and others bowed, each fixing their mind on one direction.
प्रगृह्याभ्यद्रवत्तूर्णं कुरुक्षेत्रं स्वमाश्रमम
Seizing it, he swiftly rushed toward Kurukshetra, his own hermitage.
दृष्ट्वानमः स्थाणवेति प्रोक्त्वा सर्वेह्युपाविशन्
Seeing him, they all said, 'Salutations, O Sthanu,' and sat down together.
क्षुब्धं जगज्जगन्नाथ उन्मज्जस्व प्रियातिथे
O Lord of the universe, the world is disturbed; arise, beloved guest.
श्रुत्वोत्तस्थौ च वैगेन सर्वव्यापी निरञ्जनः
Hearing this, the all-pervading, stainless one rose at once.
स चागतः सुरैः सेन्द्रः प्रणतो विनयान्वितैः
He arrived, accompanied by the gods and Indra, all bowing with humility.
महाव्रतं त्रयो लोकाः क्षुब्धास्त्वत्तेसावृताः
The three worlds, enveloped by your great vow, are agitated.
ततः सुरा दिवं जग्मुर्हृष्टाः प्रयतमानसाः
Then the gods joyfully went to heaven, their minds intent.
ततो ऽभिचिन्तयद्रुद्रः किमर्थं क्षुभिता मही
Then Rudra pondered, 'For what reason is the earth disturbed?'
ददर्शोघवतीतीरे उशनसं तपोनिधिम्
He saw Ushanas, the treasury of austerity, on the bank of the Ghagavati.
जगत्क्षोभकरं विप्र तच्छीघ्रं कथ्यतां मम
O Brahmin, tell me quickly what is causing the agitation of the world.
संजीवनीं शुभां विद्यां ज्ञातुमिच्छे त्रिलोचन
O three-eyed one, I wish to know the auspicious science of revival.
तस्मात् संजीवनींविद्यां भवान् ज्ञास्यति तत्तवत्तः
Therefore, you will know the science of revival in its true essence.
तथापि चलते पृथ्वी साब्धिभूभृन्नगावृता
Yet the earth, surrounded by oceans, mountains, and hills, still moves.
ददर्श नृत्यमानं च ऋषिं मङ्कणसंज्ञितम्
He saw the sage named Mankana dancing.
तस्यैव वेगेन समाहता तु चचाल भूर्भूमिधरैः सहैव
Struck by his speed, the earth shook together with its mountains.
किं भावितो नृत्यसि केन हेतुना वदस्व मामेत्य किमत्र तुष्टिः
Why are you dancing, what is your intention? Tell me, approaching; what satisfaction is here?
