तत्र दैत्याः समाजग्मुः सायुधाः सबला मुने
There, O sage, the Daityas arrived, armed and accompanied by their forces.
अभ्यद्रवन्त सहसा स चोग्रो मातृमण्डलः
They charged suddenly, and the fierce host of Mothers also advanced.
निषूदयत् परबलं क्रुद्धो रुद्रः पशूनिव
Enraged Rudra struck down the enemy army, like beasts slaughtered by a master of cattle.
कुठारं पाणिनादाय हन्ति सर्वान् महासुरान्
Taking up his axe in hand, he slew all the great asuras.
सरथं सगजं साश्वं विस्तृते वदने ऽक्षिपत
With his mouth wide open, he hurled chariots, elephants, and horses together.
सवाहनं प्रक्षिपति समुत्पाट्य महार्मवे
He uprooted and cast down vehicles with their riders into the great ocean.
संचूर्णयति मन्त्रीव राजानं प्रासभृद् वशी
He crushed them like a minister subduing a king, wielding his spear with mastery.
द्विधा त्रिधा च बहुधा चक्रे दैतेयदानवान्
He split the Daityas and Danavas in two, in three, and into many pieces.
तत्र तत्र प्रदृश्यन्ते राशयः शावदानवैः
Here and there could be seen heaps of Danujas lying like corpses.
निजघानासुरान् वीरः सवाजिरथकुञ्जरान्
The hero struck down the asuras, along with their horses, chariots, and elephants.
निजघान यथैवेन्द्रो वज्रवृष्ट्या नगोत्तमान्
He struck them down just as Indra fells great mountains with a shower of thunderbolts.
भ्रामयन् मुद्गरं वेगान्निजघान बलाद् रिपून्
Whirling his mace with speed, he forcefully struck down his enemies.
भस्म चक्रे महावेगो रथं च रथिना सह
With tremendous force, he reduced the chariot and its warrior to ashes.
कीलभिर्वज्रतुल्याभिर्जघान बलवान् मुने
With bolts as hard as thunder, the mighty one struck them down, O sage.
लुण्ठनेन तता दैत्यान् निजघान सवाहनान्
By plundering, he struck down the Daityas along with their mounts.
विदारयति संग्रामे दानवान् समरोद्धतान्
He tore apart the Danavas in battle, who were wild with the fury of combat.
प्रदुद्रावाथ महिषस्तारकश्च गणाग्रणीः
Then the buffalo-demon and Tāraka, the leader of the hosts, fled.
परिवार्य समन्तात् ते युयुधुः कुपितास्तदा
Surrounding him on all sides, they fought, enraged, at that time.
षोटशाक्षस्त्रिशूलेन शतशीर्षो वरासिना
Ṣoṭaśākṣa with his trident, and Śataśīrṣa with his excellent sword—
बन्धुदत्तस्तु शूलेन मूर्ध्नि दैत्यमताडयत्
Bandhudatta struck the Daitya on the head with his spear.
नाकम्पत् ताड्यमानो ऽपि मैनाक इव पर्वतः
Though struck, he did not tremble, like the mountain Maināka.
वध्यते चैकचूडाया दार्यते परमायुधैः
He is slain by Ekacūḍā and torn apart by supreme weapons.
न क्षोभं जग्मतुर्विरौ क्षोभयन्तौ गणानपि
The two mighty ones did not waver, even as they shook the hosts.
पराजित्य पराधावत् कुमारं प्रति सायुधः
Having defeated him, he rushed forward, armed, against Kumāra.
चक्रमुद्यम्य संक्रुद्धो रुरोध दनुनन्दनम्
Raising his discus in anger, he blocked the son of Danu.
अयुध्येतां तद ब्रह्मन् लघु चित्रं च सुष्ठु च
Then, O Brahman, the two fought—swiftly, skillfully, and marvelously.
सुचक्राक्षो निजं चक्रमुत्ससर्जासुरं प्रति
Sukakrākṣa released his own discus at the Asura.
तत उच्चुक्रुशुर्दैत्या हा हतो महिषस्तिवति
Then the Daityas cried out loudly, 'Alas! The buffalo-demon is slain!'
जघान चक्रं रक्ताक्षः पञ्जमुष्टिशतेन हि
Raktākṣa struck down the discus with a hundred clenched fists.
बलवानपि बाणेन निष्प्रयत्नगतिः कृतः
Though powerful, he was rendered motionless by an effortless arrow.
