कुरुक्षेत्रे सरस्वत्यामभिष्ञ्चाम षण्मुखम्
'Let us anoint Ṣaṇmukha at Kurukṣetra, on the Sarasvatī.'
महिषं घातयत्वेष तारकं च सुदारुणम्
'Let him slay Mahiṣa and the exceedingly dreadful Tāraka.'
कुमारसहिता जग्मुः कुरुक्षेत्रं महाफलम्
Together with Kumāra, they went to Kurukṣetra, the place of great merit.
यत्नमस्याभिषेकार्तं चक्रुर्मुनिगणैः सह
They made efforts for his consecration, along with the hosts of sages.
वरौषधीभिश्च सहस्रमूर्त्तिभिस्तदाभ्यषिञ्चन् गुमच्युताद्याः
With auspicious herbs and by those of a thousand forms, they anointed him, beginning with those that exude gum.
जगुर्गन्धर्वपतयो ननृतुश्चाप्सरोगणाः
The lords of the Gandharvas sang, and the hosts of Apsarases danced.
स्नेहादुत्सङ्गगं स्कन्दं मूर्ध्न्यजिघ्रन्मुर्हुर्मुहुः
Out of affection, she repeatedly lifted the child onto her lap and kissed his head again and again.
भात्यद्रिजा यथेन्द्रस्य देवमातादितिः पुरा
She shone like Aditi, the mother of the gods, once did for Indra.
पावकः कृत्तिकाश्चैव कुटिला च यशस्विनी
Pāvaka, the Kṛttikās, and Kuṭilā the illustrious one,
प्रमथांश्चतुरः प्रदाच्छक्रतुल्यपराक्रमान्
gave four Pramathas, equal in valor to Indra,
चतुर्थं बलिनां मुख्यं ख्यातं कुमुदमालिनम्
The fourth, renowned as Kumudamālin, chief among the mighty,
प्रददुः प्रमथान् स्वान् स्वान् सर्वे ब्रह्मपुरोगमाः
All the foremost, led by Brahmā, gave their own Pramathas,
संक्रमं विक्रमं चैव तृतीयं च पराक्रमम्
Saṃkrama, Vikrama, and the third, Parākrama,
चन्द्रो मणिं वसुमणिमश्विनौ वत्सनन्दिनौ
Candra gave the jewel, Vasumaṇi, and the Aśvins gave Vatsanandina,
कुन्दं मुकुन्दं कुसुमं त्रीन् धातानुचरान् ददौ
Kunda, Mukunda, and Kusuma—three attendants of the elements—were given,
पाणित्यजं कालकञ्च प्रादात् पूषा महाबलौ
Pūṣan gave Pāṇityaja and Kālaka, both of great strength,
प्रादादेवोच्छ्रितो विन्ध्यस्त्वतिशृङ्गं च पार्षदम्
The exalted Vindhya gave Atiśṛṅga as an attendant,
संग्रहं विग्रहं चाब्धिर्नागा जयमहाजयौ
The ocean gave Saṃgraha and Vigraha, and the Nāgas gave Jaya and Mahājaya,
घसं चातिघसं वायुः प्रादादनुचरावुभौ
Vāyu gave Ghāsa and Atighāsa, both as attendants,
प्रददावंशुमान् पञ्च प्रमथान् षण्मुखाय हि
Aṃśumān gave five Pramathas to Ṣaṇmukha,
तालपत्रं नाडिजङ्घं षडेवानुचरान् ददौ
He gave Tālapātra, Nāḍijaṅgha, and six other attendants,
सुव्रतं सत्यसन्धं च मित्रः प्रदाद द्विजोत्तम
Mitra gave Suvrata and Satyasandha, O best of twice-born,
एकाक्षः कुनटी चक्षुः किरीटी कलशोदरः
Ekākṣa, Kunaṭī, Cakṣu, Kirīṭin, and Kalaśodara,
गणाः पञ्चदशैते हि यक्षैर्दत्ता गुहस्य तु
These fifteen Gaṇas were indeed given to Guha by the Yakṣas.
मन्दाकिन्यास्तथा नन्दो विपाशायाः प्रियङ्करः
Likewise, from the Mandākinī, Nanda; from the Vipāśā, Priyaṅkara.
मार्जारं सौशिकी प्रादात् क्रथक्रौञ्चौ च गौतमी
Sauśikī gave Mārjāra, and the Gautamī gave Krathakrauñca.
भीमं भीमरथी प्रादाद् वेगारिं सरयूर्ददौ
The Bhīmarathī gave Bhīma, and the Sarayū gave Vegāri.
महानदी चित्रदेवं चित्रा चित्ररथं ददौ
The great river gave Citradeva, and Citrā gave Citraratha.
जम्बूकं धूतपापा च वेणा श्वेताननं ददौ
Dhūtapāpā gave Jambūka, and Veṇā gave Śvetānana.
प्रभावार्थं सहं प्रादात् काञ्चना कनकेक्षणम्
For the sake of power, Kāñcanā gave Kanakekṣaṇa.
