सर्वान् ज्ञातीन् समाभाष्य विवेश ससुता ततः
After greeting all her relatives, she entered with her son.
उवाच वाक्यं वाक्यज्ञः सर्वानाभाष्य सुस्वरम्
Then, the one skilled in speech addressed everyone in a clear voice.
महेश्वरार्थं कन्यां तु तच्चावेद्यं भवत्सु वै
For the sake of Maheśvara, the matter of the maiden should indeed be made known among you.
नोल्लङ्घ्य युष्मान् दास्यामि तत्क्षमं वक्तुमर्हथ
Without transgressing you, I will give her; it is proper for you to speak your consent.
सर्व एवाब्रुवन् वाक्यं स्थिताः स्वेष्वासनेषु ते
All of them, seated in their own places, spoke these words.
दीयतां शैल कालीयं जामाताभिमतो हि नः
Let the daughter of the mountain be given; for us, the chosen son-in-law is agreeable.
पितृनाराध्य देवैस्तैर्दत्तानेनैव हेतुना
Having worshipped the ancestors and gods, she is to be given for this very reason.
स हनिष्यति दैत्यैन्द्रं महिषं तारकं तथा
He will slay the lord of the Daityas, Mahiṣa, and also Tāraka.
प्रोवाच पुत्रि दत्तासि शर्वाय त्वं मयाधुना
He said, 'Daughter, you are now given by me to Śarva.'
प्रणामं संकरवधूर्भक्तिनम्रा करोति व
The bride of Śaṅkara, full of devotion, humbly offered her obeisance.
लज्जमानां समाश्वास्य हरनामोदितैः शुभैः
Encouraging the bashful one with auspicious words gladdening the heart,
जामित्रगुणसंयुक्तां तिथिं पुण्यां सुमङ्गलाम्
A blessed and most auspicious date, endowed with the qualities of a good alliance,
गमिष्यति च तत्रोक्तो मुहूर्त्तो मैत्रनामकः
And the moment named Maitra was then declared for the event.
तव पुत्र्या वयं यामस्तदनुज्ञातुमर्हसि
We shall depart with your daughter; you should grant permission for this.
विसर्जयामास शनैः शैलराड् ऋषिपुङ्गवान्
The lord of the mountain slowly dismissed the foremost sages.
आसाद्य मन्दरगिरिं भूयो ऽवन्दन्त शङ्करम्
Reaching Mount Mandara, they again bowed to Śaṅkara.
सब्रह्यकास्त्रयो लोका द्रक्ष्यन्ति घनवाहनम्
Along with their companions, the three worlds will behold the bearer of clouds.
पूजयामास विधिना अरुन्धत्या समं हरः
Hara, together with Arundhati, performed worship according to the prescribed rite.
ते ऽप्याजग्मुर्हरं द्रष्टुं ब्रह्मविष्ण्विन्द्रभास्कराः
Those—Brahma, Vishnu, Indra, and Bhaskara—also came to see Hara.
सस्मार नन्दिप्रमुखांश्च सवानभ्येत्य ते वन्द्य हरं निषण्णाः
Having arrived, those headed by Nandi remembered and honored Hara, sitting before him.
यता वने सर्ज्जकदम्बमध्ये प्ररोहमूलो ऽथ वनस्पतिर्वै
Just as in the forest, among the sal and kadamba trees, a tree with roots sprouts forth.
अथोत्थाय हरिं भक्त्या परिष्वज्य न्यपीडयत्
Then, rising up, Hari embraced with devotion and pressed close.
आलोक्यान्यान् सुरगणान् संभावयत् स शङ्करः
Seeing the other hosts of gods, Shankara showed them respect.
शैवाः पाशुपताद्याश्च विविशुर्मन्दरालम्
The Shaivas, the followers of Pashupati, and others entered Mandara's abode.
जगाम भगवान् शर्वः कर्तुं वैवाहिकं विधिम्
The blessed Sharva went to perform the marriage ceremony.
सुरभिः सुरसा चान्याश्चक्रर्मण्डनमाकुलाः
Surabhi, Surasa, and others stirred up a tumult.
सिंहाजिनी चालिनीलभुजङ्गकृतकुण्डलः
Wearing a lion skin, adorned with blue serpents as earrings.
समुन्नातजटाभारो वृषभस्थो विराजते
With his matted hair piled high, seated upon the bull, he shines forth.
देवाश्च पृष्ठतो जग्मुर्हुताशनपुरोगमाः
The gods followed behind, led by Agni.
प्रयाति देवपार्श्वस्थो हंसेन च पितामहः
The grandfather, riding beside the gods, proceeds on a swan.
