प्रीणनं देवनाथाय कुर्याच्छ्रद्धासमन्वितः
With faith, one should perform the act of pleasing the Lord of the gods.
पूजनं शङ्करस्योक्तं चूतमञ्जरिभिर्विभो
The worship of Shankara is said to be with mango blossoms, O Lord.
नामजप्यमपीशस्य कालघ्नेति विपश्चिता
The wise should also recite the names of the Lord, for it destroys time (i.e., death).
सोपवीतान् सहान्नाद्यांस्तच्चित्तैस्तत्परायणैः
Those who are invested with the sacred thread and devoted in mind should offer cooked food.
धूपयेत्तत्त्रिनेत्रं च आयत्यां पुष्टिकारकम्
One should offer incense to the Three-eyed One, for it brings prosperity in the future.
उपानद्यगलं छत्रं दानं दद्याच्च भक्तिमान्
A devotee should give as gifts an umbrella, a garment, and a necklace.
इदमुच्चारयेद्भक्त्या प्रीणनाय जगत्पतेः
With devotion, one should recite this for the satisfaction of the Lord of the universe.
धत्तूरकुसुमैः शुक्लैर्धूपयेत् सिल्हकं तथा
One should offer incense of white dhattura flowers and also silhaka.
नमस्ते दक्षयज्ञघ्न इदमुच्चैरुदीरयेत्
Salutations to you, destroyer of Daksha's sacrifice—let this be proclaimed aloud.
श्रीवृक्षपत्रः सफलैर्धूपं दद्यात् तथागुरुम्
He should offer incense with auspicious leaves bearing fruit, as well as fragrant substances.
दध्योदनं सकृसरं माषधानाः सशष्कुलीः
He should present curd-rice, rice cooked with milk, pulses, and cakes.
गङ्गाधरेति जप्तव्यं नाम शंभोश्च पण्डितैः
The learned should recite the name 'Ganga-bearer' and also the name of Shambhu.
अक्षयान् लभते कामान् महेश्वरवचो यथा
He attains inexhaustible desires, just as declared by the words of Maheshvara.
स्वयं रुद्रण देवर्षे तत्तथा न तदन्यथा
This was spoken by Rudra himself to the sage among the gods; thus it is, not otherwise.
नाभ्या निर्याति हि तदा देवेष्वेतान्यथो ऽभवन्
Then, from his navel, these beings emerged and became gods.
तेन तस्य परा प्रीतिः कदम्बेन विवर्द्धते
Therefore, his supreme delight increases through the kadamba tree.
वटवृक्षः समभवत् तस्मिस्तस्य यतिः सदा
From that, a banyan tree arose, which always serves as his ascetic seat.
संजातः स च शर्वस्य पतिकृत् तस्य नित्यशः
That too was produced for Sharva, always made by his lord.
ख दरः कण्टकी श्रेयानभवद्विश्वकर्मणः
The thorny khadira tree became more excellent than the work of Vishvakarman.
गणाधिपस्य कुम्भस्थो राजते सिन्धुवारकः
The sindhuvara, placed in a pot, shines as the lord of the hosts.
कृष्णोदुम्बरको रुद्राज्जातः क्षोमकरो वृषः
The black udumbara tree was born from Rudra; the bull, bringer of garments, as well.
कात्यायनयाः शमीजाताबिल्वो लक्ष्मायाः करे ऽभवत्
From Katyayani came the shami tree; the bilva appeared in Lakshmi's hand.
वासुकेर्विस्तृते पुच्छे पृष्ठे दूर्वा सितासिता
On Vasuki's extended tail and back grew the sacred grasses, both white and black.
एवं जातेषु सर्वेषु तेन तत् रतिर्भवेत्
Thus, as all these came into being, devotion arises because of them.
तस्यां संपूजयेद् विष्णुं तेन खण्डो ऽस्य पूर्यते
One should worship Vishnu in them; thereby his portion is fulfilled.
ओषधीभिश्च मुख्याभिर्यावत्स्याच्छरदागमः
And with the chief herbs, as long as the autumn season lasts.
मणिमुक्ताप्रवालानि वस्त्राणि विविधानि च
Jewels, pearls, coral, and various kinds of garments.
तिक्तानि च निवेद्यानि तान्यखण्डानि यानि हि
And bitter offerings, those which are whole and unbroken.
यदा संवत्सरं पूर्णमखण्डं भवते गृहे
When a full year passes with everything unbroken in the house,
स्नानेन तेन स्नायीत येनाखण्डं हि वत्सरम्
One should bathe with that, by which the year remained whole.
