O Bharadvāja, listen with a pure heart as I reveal a wondrous truth. In countless forms, I dwell throughout the universe, abiding in supremely holy places. My presence pervades all directions, fills the mountains and the oceans—I am everywhere, in every sacred region, manifest in a multitude of ways. From the highest, Brahmā, down to the immovable stones, from twice-born sages to birds and the honored among beings, whether embodied or disembodied, all are created by me. Each bears many and varied qualities, brought forth for the fulfillment and sustenance of the earth. Know this, O best of the twice-born: simply to see or to praise these manifestations destroys sin at once. By singing their glories, by touching their sacred forms, and by performing other acts of devotion, all sins are washed away. Let me recount to you my forms and abodes. As the Horse-headed One, I manifest as a portion of Krishna; as Govinda, I reside in Hastinapura. In Kedara, I am Madhava; in Kubjamra, I am Shauri and Hrishṭamūrdhaja. In Bhadra-karna, I am Jayesha; in the river Vipasha, I am beloved of the twice-born. In Gokarna, after purification, I am Nrisimha, and there too, I am Vishvakarman. At Vishakhayupa, I am Ajita; at Hamsapada, I am Hamsa. On the Manimat mountain, I am Shambhu; in Brahmanya, I am Prajapati. Know me, O sage, as Vishnu abiding on the summit of the medicinal mountain. In Gaya, I am the Lord of cows, the god, the mace-wielder, the Lord. On the sacred southern slope of Mahendra mountain, I am Ardhanarishvara. On Sahya mountain, I am Vaikuntha; on Pariyatra, Aparajita. On Malaya mountain, I am Saugandhi; at the foot of Vindhya, I am Sadashiva. Among the Panchalas, I am Panchalika; in Madhupata, Swayambhu; in Pushkara, Ayogandhi. Here itself, I am Avimukta, and Lola is sung of here as well. At Kumaradhara, I am Bahlisha; as Barhina, I am Kartikeya. In Kishkindha, I am known as Vanamalina. In the Narmada, I am the Lord of fortune, bearing the Srivatsa mark, resplendent in noble form. On Arbuda, Trisauparṇa, and Sūkarācala—the mountain that upholds the earth—I dwell. Here too, the third, Śaśiśekhara, is renowned. On Hemakūṭa, I am Hiraṇyākṣa; at Śaravaṇa, I am Skanda. I am Padmanābha, bestower of all happiness. There, too, I am Mahāhaṃsa; at Prayāga, I am Vaṭeśvara. In Bhillīvana, I am Mahāyoga; in Mādras, I am Puruṣottama. At Śūrpāraka, I am the Four-armed One; in Magadha, the Lord of Nectar. In the Daṇḍakāraṇya forest, I am called Vanaspati. Drawn by swans in Mahākośa, I am the destroyer of all sins. On the peak of Vindhya, I am Mahāśairin; in Kanthā, I am Madhusūdana. At Lauhadaṇḍa, I am Hṛṣīkeśa; in Kosala, the enchanting one. In Devakānadyā, I am Bhūdhara; at Mahodā, Kuśapriya. In the Sindhu forest, I am Sunetra; in Śūrapura, I am Śūra. At Bhīmā, I am Śaṅkukarṇa; in Śālavana, I am known as Bhīma. On Mahilāśaila, I am Maheśa; in Kāmarūpa, I am Śaśiprabha. On the island of Siṃhala, I am Upendra; on Śakrāhva, I am Kundamālin. There too, I am Kālāgnirudra and another, Kṛttivāsas. On Mahātala, O teacher, I am renowned as Deveśa, as well as Chāgaleśvara. Thus, O sage, in all these sacred places and forms, I abide. To know, to see, to praise, or to worship these manifestations is to be freed from sin and to draw near to the divine mystery that pervades all creation.
