With reverence and devotion, the devotee begins to praise the Lord, addressing Him by His many wondrous aspects and names. “O bearer of the steadfast banner, O bearer of the banner of truth, I bow to you in humble salutations. O bearer of the palm-banner, and bearer of the heavy banner, I offer my respects. Salutations to Jayanta, to Vijaya, to Jayānanta, and to Parājita, the victorious ones. O Lord, you are without beginning, beginning, end, or middle; you are the beloved of the lotus-born. To you, I offer salutations. O Śubhañjaya, O Dhanañjaya, I bow to you. Salutations to you, Hiraṇyagarbha, the golden womb, and to you, Padmagarbha, the lotus-born. O Kālanābha, whose navel is time, and O Mahānābha, the great navel, I bow before you. You are the abode of Dharma, the abode of water, O Śrīnivāsa, in you I offer salutations. O Lord of the army, repeated salutations to you, O Lord of time. O Hari, wearer of the forest garland, O bearer of the earth, I bow to you. O you of many cycles, of the great cycle, source of all creation, I offer my salutations. O dark-blue, red, and great dark-blue one, O Aniruddha, I bow to you. O one whose essence is space, supreme spirit, whose essence is all beings, salutations to you. O one with munja grass hair, master of the senses, lord of all, may my mind be fixed upon you. O wearer of white and yellow garments, O one clothed in blue, I bow to you. O Govinda, maker of delight, O swan, lover of yellow garments, salutations. Salutations to Vāmana, the dwarf incarnation; salutations to you, O slayer of Madhu. Salutations to you, O eye of righteousness; salutations to you, O great-eyed one. Salutations to you, O sacrificial boar; salutations to you, O one of great form. O universal form, I bow to you, for from you this universe has arisen. Salutations to you, who are the branch, the leaf, the shoot, and the sprout. From your navel arose the mid-space; the moon sprang from your mind. From your sides, the twin gods were born, and the Śūdras from your feet. From your navel arose the mid-space; the moon from your mind. From anger, the three-eyed Rudra emerged; from your head, the sky was produced. Plants arose from your hair. O Virāj, I bow to you. You are the sacred syllable Om, the utterance vaṣaṭ, the invocation vauṣaṭ, and the offerings svadhā and sudhā. You are all forms and formlessness, the embodiment of the Vedas; I bow to you. You are the essence of all sacred waters and likewise the essence of all sacrifices. Salutations to you with a thousand streams, and salutations to you with a hundred streams. Salutations to you, giver of gold and Brahman, and giver of all things. Salutations to you, Supreme Brahman; salutations to you, Brahman in sound. You are intellect, you are also what is to be understood, and you are knowledge itself; I bow to you. You are the protector, the vessel, the purifier, and the sanctifier; Om, salutations. You are the remover, the leader, the guide, the revered, the foremost, and the supporter of the universe. You are the sacrificial vessels, onefold, manifold, and threefold. You are the knower, the object to be known, knowledge itself, the object of meditation, the meditator, and the Lord. You are the limbs of yoga, O Lord; you are all-pervading. I bow to you. You are initiation, you are the sacrificial cake, you are the sacrificial animal, and you are the carrier of the animal. You are the great person, the path, and you possess the forms of a thousand suns and moons.” Thus, the devotee extols the Lord, recognizing Him as the source, sustainer, and essence of all creation, all forms, and all knowledge, offering heartfelt salutations at every turn.
