That which purifies from all sins and brings about the increase of merit is indeed most sacred; it is always to be recited without doubt. For those who recite it, strength and peace arise, their lives enriched by its power. With a heart full of reverence, I bow to the Lord of the universe, praying that He may remove my sins. I bow to the Supreme God, to the consort of Lakshmi, and to Him who is praised by the praiseworthy—all with the hope that He will cleanse me of my faults. I offer my salutations to the supporter of the earth, to the mighty-armed One, and to the beloved of Sri, asking again and again that my sins be removed. I take refuge in Vasudeva, who is beyond description. I seek shelter in Him called Vasudeva, whom the wise and meditative contemplate in their hearts. I surrender to Vasudeva, the supreme Brahman, the imperishable God who stands at the end of all action. I take refuge in Him whom even the yogis, with all their discipline, cannot attain; in that imperishable Lord, the Creator; in the ancient Master who was born at the beginning of time. I bow to the eternal One, who is established as the Creator at the time of creation. I offer my salutations to the primeval Person, Vishnu, the destroyer of beings, to Vishnu the original Lord, the eternal Person of sacrifice. I bow to Rudra, the inner Self, the destroyer whose essence is Rudra, who dances the dance of dissolution. I offer my salutations to the all-pervading Lord from whom all beings have arisen, of whom all are but portions, and in whom all are but a single part. I bow to the infinite One who abides in the midst of all. Thus, by the grace of Vishnu, may all my sins be destroyed. May the sins discerned by knowledge, and those accumulated through actions over many births, be likewise destroyed. May the sins committed at the junctions of the day, by deed, mind, or speech, and whatever inauspicious acts have been done through body, mind, or speech, quickly dissolve through the praise of Vasudeva. If I have incurred reproach by harming others, especially when directed at great souls, let that be washed away, just as a vessel of salt dissolves in water. Whatever wrongs were done in other births, or in the course of this life, let them too be dissolved in the same way, vanishing without a trace. Again and again, I offer salutations to Janardana, to Krishna. I bow to Him who slew Ariṣṭa, Keśi, Caṇūra, and the enemies of the gods. Who else but He could forcibly destroy the pride of the king of the Haihayas? Who else will slay Daśagrīva, together with his ministers and his city? Thus, the glory and refuge of the Lord is praised, for in Him lies the destruction of all sin and the assurance of liberation.
