क्रियेतां सोमपावेतावश्विनौ बलसूदन प्रत्युवाच ततः शक्रः प्रणामानतकंधरः
Let the Aśvins become drinkers of Soma, O slayer of Bala; then Śakra replied, bowing his head in reverence.
सोमपावश्विनावेतावद्यप्रभृति भार्गव
From now on, the Aśvins shall be drinkers of Soma, O Bhārgava.
मा तेऽतिथ्याभिसंरंभो भविष्यति तपोधन ।। । लिंगस्यास्य प्रभावोऽयं यदहं निष्प्रभीकृतः
Let there be no anger in you regarding their hospitality, O possessor of austerity; this is the power of this liṅga, by which I have been subdued.
ततस्त्वन्नामधेयेन प्रसिद्धिर्भुवि यास्यति 5.2.30.
Therefore, your name shall become renowned on earth.
च्यवनेश्वरमेतद्वै ख्यातं त्रिभुवनेऽभवत् आजन्मप्रभवं पापं तेषां नश्यति तत्क्षणात्
This became known throughout the three worlds as Cyavaneśvara; from that moment, all sins arising from birth are destroyed for them.
यः पश्यति नरो नित्यं च्यवनेश्वरसंज्ञकम्
Whoever always beholds the deity called Cyavaneśvara,
यंयं काममभिध्यायेन्मनसाभिमतं नरः
Whatever desire a man contemplates in his mind,
नियमेन प्रपश्यंति ये देवं च्यवनेश्वरम्
Those who behold the god Cyavaneśvara with discipline,
यः शृणोति कथां पुण्यां सर्वपापहरां शुभाम्
Whoever hears this auspicious and meritorious story, which removes all sins,
भक्तिहीनः क्रियाहीनो यः पश्यति प्रसंगतः
Even one who is without devotion and without ritual, if he beholds it by chance,
पुष्पैर्विचित्रैर्ये देवं यजंते च्यवनेश्वरम्
Those who worship the god Cyavaneshvara with various beautiful flowers—
एष ते कथितो देवि प्रभावः पापनाशनः
O Devi, this power of his, which destroys sin, has been described to you.
संपूर्णं जायते यस्य दर्शाद्दानव्रतादिकम्
By seeing him, all vows and rituals such as Dāna and Vrata become complete.
आसीत्त्रेतायुगे देवि भद्राश्वोनाम पार्थिवः
In the Tretā Yuga, O Devi, there was a king named Bhadrāśva.
तस्यागस्त्यः कदाचित्तु गृहमागम्य सत्तमः
Once, the noble Agastya came to his house.
तं राजा शिरसा नत्वा स्वास्यतामित्यभाषत
The king bowed his head to him and said, 'Please be seated.'
तस्यास्तेजः समभवद्द्वादशादित्यसंनिभम्
His radiance was like that of twelve suns combined.
ता दास्य इव कर्माणि कुर्वंत्यहरहः सदा
They performed tasks for him every day, just like servants.
तामगस्त्यस्तथा दृष्ट्वा तन्मुखासक्तलोचनाम् साधुसाधु जगन्नाथेत्यगस्त्यः प्राह हर्षितः
Seeing her, whose eyes were fixed on his face, Agastya joyfully said, 'Excellent, excellent, O Lord of the universe!'
द्वितीये दिवसेप्येवं राज्ञीं दृष्ट्वा महाप्रभाम्
On the second day as well, seeing the queen, who was full of great splendor—
इत्यगस्त्यो द्वितीयेऽह्नि राज्ञीं दृष्टेत्युवाच ह
Thus, on the second day, Agastya, having seen the queen, spoke.
अहो मूढा न जानंति लिंगमाहात्म्यमुत्तमम् 5.2.31.
Alas, the ignorant do not know the supreme greatness of the Liṅga.
खंडव्रतानि जायंते पूर्णानि दर्शनाद्यदः
Incomplete vows become fulfilled simply by seeing it.
साधुसाधु जगन्नाथ साधु भद्राश्व सुव्रत
Excellent, excellent, O Lord of the universe! Well done, Bhadrāśva, steadfast in vows!
नृत्यंतं सप्तमे दृष्ट्वा दिने पत्न्या समन्वितः किं हर्षकारणं ब्रह्मन्येन नृत्यसमन्वितः
Seeing him dancing on the seventh day, together with his wife—what is the cause of joy for this devotee of Brahman, accompanied by dance?
अहो पुरोहितो मुग्धो ये न जानंति मे मतम्
Alas, the priest is bewildered—those who do not know my view.
ईदृशा अपि जायंते राजानो यस्य दर्शनात्
Even such kings are born by seeing him.
न जानीमो वयं ब्रह्मन्नभिप्रायं तवाधुना
O Brahman, we do not know your intention at this moment.
नगरे हरिदत्तस्य त्वमस्याः पतिरेव च
In the city of Haridatta, you are indeed her husband.
स च वैश्यो महाकाले गत्वा देवं महेश्वरम्
That merchant, having gone to Mahākāla, approached the god Maheśvara.
