To that place, for pleasure, she came to the excellent forest.
He had four thousand women as his consorts.
She, surrounded by her companions and adorned with all ornaments—
Then, out of curiosity, she, confused in mind, used a thorn.
Pierced by her, he became extremely distressed in both eyes.
Then, with his urine and feces blocked, the king suffered greatly.
Who has committed an offense here against the great-souled Bhārgava?
If it is known or unknown, speak of it now without delay.
Then that ruler of the earth, with gentle and harsh words himself—
Seeing her father distressed, Sukanyā then spoke to him:
Like a firefly, I recognized it; it was I who pierced nearby.
There she saw the Bhārgava, aged in asceticism and in years.
O lord of the earth, what was done to you by the ignorant girl was out of unknowing.
For the sake of a wife, please accept her; be gracious, best of twice-born.
If this is so, I accept her and will forgive, O king.
Having accepted that maiden, the blessed one was appeased.
Sukanya, having obtained her husband, remained unblemished and devoted to asceticism.
Then, after some time, O beloved, the two Ashvins approached.
Seeing her, whose limbs were beautiful, like the daughter of the king of the gods,
She, greatly fortunate and devoted to her husband, spoke.
Then the Ashvins laughed and again addressed her.
O lovely one, you are neglected here, deprived of enjoyment of desires.
For the sake of your husband, do not waste your youth like one with a divine womb.
I am devoted to Cyavana, the sage; do not doubt me thus.
Hearing their words, she spoke to Bhargava.
They said to the princess, 'Let your husband enter the lake.'
At that time, the Ashvins also entered the lake, O beloved.
All appeared in divine forms, young and adorned with celestial earrings.
Together they said, 'Choose any one among us, O auspicious one.'
She, observing all standing there in identical forms,
