When infamy is spoken of in the world regarding someone who has passed—
Therefore, one should be of virtuous conduct; otherwise, there is downfall on earth.
I greatly praise here the highest fame, which brings heaven.
As long as the fame of men endures on earth, undiminished—
There is no sweat, nor foul odor, nor excrement, nor even urine; they are carried in aerial chariots, adorned with various ornaments.
Thus, reflecting in this way, King Indradyumna, O beautiful-faced one,
In the place where the great sage Markandeya performed intense austerity, he approached that sage, steadfast in his vows, and respectfully asked him,
The gods, demons, and rakshasas are all known to you, O knower of dharma.
Nothing in this world is unknown to you, O best of twice-born; how does lasting fame arise in the world, and what is the fruit of austerity?
As long as fame remains on earth, so long one dwells with the gods.
Near the Lord Kalkaleshvara, on the left side,
By merely worshipping him, you will obtain supreme fame.
Having gone there, he worshipped that renowned linga.
Those stationed in aerial chariots in the sky addressed the king, saying:
From today onward, O king, this linga shall bear your name.
Those men who worship the god Indradyumneshvara
They, delighted and praised by the gods and sages, will go to heaven.
Those who even behold it, whether out of desire or by chance,
They will not fall from heaven as long as there are fourteen Indras; they will always deliver their maternal and paternal lineages.
Thus addressed, all the gods worshipped the linga with great care.
O goddess, this power of his, destroyer of sins, has been described to you.
By merely seeing him, prosperity arises among men.
O Goddess, in former times, all the gods were afflicted by Tuhuṇḍa.
Indeed, the entire Nandana forest came under his control.
The lord of the Dānavas took away the horse named Uccaiḥśravas.
Because of that fear, the path to heaven became blocked.
At that time, the great sage Nārada, knower of time, arrived.
He was then respectfully greeted and worshipped by the gods according to custom.
Then those gods questioned Nārada, the foremost of sages, about the proper means.
"With such a situation arisen, O great sage, what should be done?"
