I shall become unapproachable due to association with the wicked.
All the tīrthas that exist on earth and in the netherworld—
All of them, by my word, will come here for the sake of service.
Thus addressed, then Śiprā took up the Kālakūṭa poison.
That poison called Kālakūṭa was placed upon the head of the liṅga.
Any beast, bird, or human who sees that Śiva—
Then, ascetics came there to undertake a pilgrimage.
Then, O goddess, the three worlds with all their beings cried out in distress; but all were revived by Pārvatī's glance.
The reverent brāhmaṇas praised me with various hymns.
Those who had bowed spoke thus, O goddess, for the welfare of the worlds.
"O Lord of the universe, protect them—this is our boon, O Master."
This liṅga will surely bring safety and health.
Then Lakulīśa, this god, will become touchable.
He will become renowned in the world by the name Kuṭumbeśvara.
Then, by my command, Lakulīśa ascended that liṅga.
Those who see the one known as Kuṭumbeśvara, O illustrious one—
Whoever performs the viewing on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of Ashvina—
—obtains great prosperity and is freed from diseases.
Those who perform the viewing, the touching, and the worship—
—near a river, or with a pond or well close by—
—on a Monday or Sunday, having bathed there with focused mind—
—receives the merit of a thousand Rajasuya sacrifices and a hundred Vajapeya sacrifices.
This, O Devi, has been told to you: its power destroys sin.
By mere sight of whom, fame and renown arise—
There was once a king, O Devi, named Indradyumna, lord of the earth.
He saw many sacrifices performed on earth, abundant in gifts.
And then, when he fell from heaven, his fame lost, he pondered, overwhelmed by sorrow.
The fruit of the action performed here is enjoyed in heaven.
This is considered a fault here, and that is the cause of his fall.
Those who attain heaven here do so as long as their fame endures; as long as their name exists, so long is a person spoken of.
