ब्रह्महा वह्निपुत्रस्तु यमुद्दिश्य मृतो जनः
The slayer of Brahmins is the son of Agni, because of whom people have died.
धातवो हि भविष्यंति तस्य देहे न संशयः
Indeed, metals will arise in his body—there is no doubt.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे वह्निर्दृष्ट्वा पुत्रस्य चेष्टितम्
Meanwhile, Agni, seeing the actions of his son,
आजगाम सुवर्णेन सार्द्धं देवि ममांतिकम्
Came to me, O goddess, together with Suvarṇa.
रक्षणीयस्त्वया देव पुत्रोयं तव शंकर
O god, this son of yours, O Śaṃkara, must be protected by you.
त्वयि तुष्टे महादेव प्राप्योऽयं नात्र संशयः
When you are pleased, O great god, he will attain his goal—of this there is no doubt.
इति तस्य वचः श्रुत्वा पितृदेवमुखस्य च
Hearing these words from the mouth of the Pitṛ-devas,
स्नेहान्मया वह्निपुत्र उत्संगे च कृतस्तदा 5.2.6.
Out of affection, I then placed the son of Agni upon my lap.
ददामि ते महाभाग वरं वरय शोभनम्
I grant you, O highly fortunate one, a boon—choose a splendid blessing.
अहमाज्ञापयामि त्वां श्रेयश्चैवमवाप्स्यसि
I command you, and thus you will attain the highest good.
अक्षयं प्रलये पुत्र महाकालवनं शुभम्
O son, the auspicious Mahākālavana will remain undestroyed even at the dissolution.
महापापहरं पुत्र दर्शनाद्दीप्तिदायकम्
O son, by its sight, it removes great sins and bestows radiance.
पुण्यश्चैव पवित्रेण दुर्लभश्च भविष्यति
It will be meritorious, supremely pure, and difficult to attain.
विरूपो रूपवांश्चैव त्वत्प्रसादाद्भविष्यति
By your grace, one who is deformed will become beautiful.
यज्ञाश्चैवोपवासाश्च तीर्थं पिंडादिकं त्वया
Sacrifices, fasts, pilgrimages, offerings of rice-balls, and the like—all will be through you.
सर्वेषां चैव रत्नानामाधिपत्यं करिष्यसि
You will have lordship over all kinds of jewels.
इत्युक्तोऽसौ महादेवि दिव्यरूपो वरानने
Thus addressed, O great goddess, the divine one of radiant form,
लिंगेनोक्तः सुवर्णस्तु दिष्ट्यादिष्ट्येति कांचनम् 5.2.6.
Gold is called suvarṇa by the sign, and by destiny it is called kāṃcana.
स्थातव्यं मत्समीपे तु वह्निपुत्र त्वया सदा
O son of Agni, you must always remain near me.
इत्युक्तो देवि लिंगेन वह्निपुत्रोऽतिनिर्मलः
Thus addressed by the sign, O goddess, the son of Agni became exceedingly pure.
दीप्तिर्लब्धा सुवर्णेन ज्वालामालाकुला तदा
Radiance was obtained from gold, then encircled by a garland of flames.
यस्तमर्चयते भक्त्या स्वर्णज्वालेश्वरं शिवम् ऐश्वर्यं दानशक्तिश्च पुत्रपौत्रमनंतकम्
Whoever worships that Śiva, lord of the golden flame, with devotion, receives endless prosperity, the power of giving, and descendants.
ज्ञानतोऽज्ञानतो वापि यत्पापं कुरुते नरः
Whether knowingly or unknowingly, whatever sin a person commits,
यत्फलं पिंडदानेन गयायां लभते नरः
The reward that a person obtains by offering the funeral rice at Gaya,
गायत्र्याः शतसाहस्रैः सम्यग्जप्तैश्च यत्फलम्
The result gained by properly reciting the Gayatri a hundred thousand times,
यत्पुण्यं सर्वदानेन दत्तेन विधिपूर्वकम्
The merit acquired by giving all kinds of gifts according to prescribed rules,
पूजयंति चतुर्दश्यां स्वर्णज्वालेश्वरं तु ये
Those who worship Svarnajvaleshvara on the fourteenth day,
रक्षितं त्रिदशैर्देवि गणैर्नानाविधैस्तथा 5.2.6.
Protected by the gods, O Devi, and by various groups of divine beings,
मम प्रसादात्तद्देवि दृश्यते लिंगमुत्तमम्
By my grace, O Devi, that supreme linga is seen.
यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण लभ्यते तत्त्रिविष्टपम्
By merely seeing it, one attains that heavenly realm.
