He went, by his own will and out of curiosity, to the realm of Indra.
He saw many delightful gestures—beautiful movements of the eyes, hands, and so on; gestures like the needle-pierced, and hand-positions such as the flag and others.
Indra too, along with the gods, kept his gaze fixed upon her face.
Meanwhile, O Goddess, Ḍhuṇḍha, with his playful manner—
There, Rambhā, absorbed in the dance, was struck with a bouquet of flowers.
"Fall, you, to the world of humans! You have disrupted the performance."
Fallen into the world of humans, she was unconscious, her senses bewildered.
"Alas, I have received the fruit of injustice, having acted out of delusion."
"By taking refuge in the path of righteousness, may I attain success."
Having spoken thus, she undertook austerities on the great mountain Maheṃdra.
O Goddess, when that is not accomplished, then the great bank of the Ganga—
—the Godavari, the Bhimarathi, the Kaushiki, the Sharada, the auspicious one—
—the pilgrimage is fruitless, the austerity is fruitless, and the result of pilgrimage is in vain.
At that moment, O Goddess, a bodiless voice spoke.
All the sacred places on earth, beginning with Prayaga—
—there abides a most holy linga, accomplishing all aims.
By the grace of that linga, you will again attain Shiva.
Hearing that voice from the sky, the group then—
—saw there that auspicious linga, bestower of all prosperity.
From the midst of the linga, then, a voice issued forth, O son of Parvati.
May my devotion to your lotus feet always remain unwavering.
If you are pleased, O great Lord, quickly grant this boon.
And those humans, O Supreme Lord, who see you—
Hearing the words of Dhuṇḍha, spoken by the linga, O illustrious one, they will always remain free from great sins.
They will obtain supreme desires and become foremost among the hosts.
Thus, having received the boon, Dhuṇḍha, with joined palms, again spoke.
"So be it," was spoken by the linga, pleased, O Parvati.
By whose mere sight, success always comes to people.
Those who worship the supreme Lord Dhundheshvara with devotion,
He alone is virtuous in the world, he alone is dear to me.
