विचरंति यथा मर्त्यास्तेन देवगणा भुवि
Because of him, the hosts of gods wandered the earth like mortals.
भो ब्रह्मन्बलिना भ्रष्टा देवलोकात्परंतप
O Brahmin, the gods have been cast down from heaven by the powerful one, O scorcher of foes.
यूयं यात पुरीं रम्यां पद्मावतीमम रोत्तमाः
You all should go to the beautiful city of Padmavati, the best of cities.
तत्र तीर्थवरं श्रेष्ठं नाम्ना चोत्तरमानसम् 5.1.63.
There is the supreme and excellent holy place called Uttaramānasa.
निधयश्च नवैवापि तत्र तिष्ठंति सत्तम
And there, O noble one, nine treasures also remain.
तत्र स्नात्वा नरः पश्येत्सिद्धेश्वरीं सुसिद्धिदाम्
There, after bathing, a man beholds Siddheśvarī, who grants excellent success.
आश्विनस्य सिते पक्षे दशम्यां दिवसे तथा
On the tenth day of the bright fortnight of Āśvina,
विजयी सर्वलोकेषु जाय ते नात्र संशयः
You will be victorious in all worlds; of this there is no doubt.
पूजयेद्वै नरो नित्यं गणेशं सर्वकामदम्
A man should always worship Gaṇeśa, the fulfiller of all desires.
तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन महाकालवनं व्रजेत्
Therefore, with all effort, one should go to the great Kālavana.
उपासनां सुरश्रेष्ठा विष्णोरतु लेतेजसः
There, O best of gods, worship the radiant Viṣṇu.
इति श्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य ब्रह्मणः शंसितात्मनः
Having heard these words of Brahmā, who spoke with assurance,
अत्राऽऽगात्य शुचीभूय स्नानदानादिकर्मभिः
They came there, purified themselves, and performed acts such as bathing and giving.
ब्रह्माणमथ ते सर्वे पप्रच्छुर्विधिमादरात् 5.1.63.
Then all of them respectfully asked Brahmā about the proper procedure.
तत्सर्वं श्रोतु मिच्छामस्त्वत्तो ब्रह्मविदां वर
We wish to hear all this from you, O best knower of Brahman.
शुक्लांबरधरं देवं शशिवर्णं चतुर्भुजम्
The god who wears white garments, who is moon-colored, and four-armed.
प्रसन्नवदनं ध्यायेत्सर्वविघ्नोपशांतये
One should meditate on the one with a serene face, for the removal of all obstacles.
येषामिंदीवरश्यामो हृदयस्थो जनार्दनः
Those in whose hearts Janardana, dark as a blue lotus, abides—
सर्वविघ्नहरस्तस्मै गणाधिपतये नमः
To him, the remover of all obstacles, the lord of the hosts, I offer homage.
न शक्तो वै प्रजाः कर्तुं विष्णुध्यानपरायणः
One devoted to meditation on Vishnu is indeed unable to harm living beings.
सर्वसिद्धेश्वरो दांतो दीर्घायुर्विजितेंद्रियः ततः प्रफुल्लनयनौ सत्कृत्य चेतरेतरम्
He is the lord of all accomplishments, self-controlled, long-lived, master of his senses; then, with eyes blossoming, they respectfully greeted each other.
पृच्छमानौ परं स्वास्थ्यं सुखासीनौ सुरोत्तमाः
The best of the gods, seated comfortably and at ease, inquired after each other's supreme well-being.
भगवन्केन प्रकारेण प्रजा मेऽनामया भवेत्
"O Lord, by what means may my subjects remain free from affliction?"
सर्वपापहरा पुण्या सर्वसुखप्रदायिनी ।। 5.1.63.
It destroys all sin, is meritorious, and bestows every happiness.
एषा ब्राह्मी महाविद्या न देया यस्य कस्यचित्
This is the great Brāhmī knowledge; it is not to be given to just anyone.
ईर्ष्यकाय च रूक्षाय कामिकाय कदाचन
Never to one who is envious, harsh, or driven by desire.
एतद्गुह्यतमं शास्त्रं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
This is the most secret teaching, the destroyer of all sins.
विष्णोर्नामसहस्रं च विष्णुभक्तिकरं शुभम्
And the thousand names of Vishnu, auspicious and fostering devotion to Vishnu.
ॐ अस्य श्रीविष्णुसहस्रनामस्तोत्रमंत्रस्य मार्कंडेय ऋषिः विष्णुर्देवता अनुष्टुप्च्छंदः सर्वकामावात्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः सजलजलदनीलं दर्शितोदारशीलं करतलधृतशैलं वेणुवाद्ये रसालम्
Om. For this hymn of the thousand names of Śrī Viṣṇu, the seer is Mārkaṇḍeya, the deity is Viṣṇu, the meter is Anuṣṭubh, and the recitation is for the fulfillment of all desires. (He is) dark as a rain-laden cloud, displaying noble character, holding a mountain in his hand, delighting in the music of the flute.
ॐविश्वं विष्णुर्हषीकेशः सर्वात्मा सर्वभावनः
Om. Viśva, Viṣṇu, Hṛṣīkeśa, the soul of all, the creator of all beings.
