महिमा ह्यपि लोकानां सर्वकामवरप्रदः
Indeed, its greatness for the worlds is the bestower of all desired boons.
महोत्सवस्तदा कार्य आत्मनो हितकांक्षिभिः
At that time, a great festival should be performed by those who seek their own welfare.
कृष्णपक्षे चतुर्दश्यां नवम्यां वा सुरेश्वरि
O Queen of the gods, on the fourteenth day or the ninth day of the dark fortnight,
यथालाभोपहारेण मासे चापि मलिम्लुचे
With whatever offerings are available, and also in the month of Malimluca,
गृहीत्वा नियमं पश्चाद्वासुदेवं हृदि स्मरन्
Having first adopted a vow, remembering Vāsudeva in the heart,
एकस्य निश्चयं कृत्वा ततो विप्रान्निमंत्रयेत्
Having made a firm resolve for one, then he should invite the Brāhmaṇas.
ततो मध्याह्नसमये लक्ष्मीयुक्तं सनातनम्
Then, at midday, to the eternal one adorned with Lakṣmī,
पूजयेत्परया भक्त्या गोत्रिभिः सपितामहम्
He should worship with supreme devotion, together with the ancestors and grandfathers of the lineage.
मिष्टान्नैर्नवभिश्चैव नैवेद्यैर्धूपदीपकैः 5.1.60.
With nine kinds of sweet foods, offerings, incense, and lamps.
घंटामृदंगनिर्ह्रादैर्घोषध्वनिसमन्वितैः
With the sounds of bells and drums, accompanied by musical notes and resonant tones.
अलाभे तूल्मुकै श्चापि फलस्यानंत्यहेतवे
If unable to obtain them, then with cotton, for the sake of endless fruit.
अर्घ्यं दद्यात्सपत्नीकः प्रहृष्टेनांतरात्मना समादाय च पाणिभ्यां सर्वभक्तिसमन्वितः
He should offer arghya, together with his wife, with a joyful inner spirit, taking it with his hands, filled with all devotion.
अर्घ्यमन्त्रः गृहाणार्घ्यमिमं देव संपूर्णफलदो भव
Arghya mantra: 'Receive this arghya, O Lord, be the giver of complete fruit.'
प्रार्थनामंत्र नमोस्तु ते श्रियानंद ब्रह्मानंद कृपाकर
Prayer mantra: 'Salutations to you, O bliss of Śrī, O bliss of Brahman, O compassionate one.'
एवं संप्रार्थ्य गोविंदं पूजयेद्ब्राह्मणात्स्वयम्
Having thus prayed to Govinda, he should worship personally, after the Brāhmaṇa.
पूजयित्वा विधानेन भोजयेद्धृतपायसैः
Having worshipped according to the rite, he should feed them with cooked rice pudding.
भोजयित्वा विधानेन सपत्नीकं यथोचितम्
Having fed them according to the rite, together with his wife, as appropriate.
पूजयित्वा यथाशक्त्या वस्त्रालंकारकुंकुमैः
Having worshipped to the best of his ability, with garments, ornaments, and saffron.
पनसैर्नारिकेलैश्च नारंगैर्दाडिमैस्तथा 5.1.60.
With jackfruits, coconuts, oranges, and pomegranates.
शर्कराघृतपूरैश्च कर्णिकैः खंडमंडकैः
With sugar, clarified butter cakes, karṇikā sweets, and pieces of maṇḍaka bread.
अन्यैश्च विविधैः शाकैराम्रैः पक्वैः पृथक्पृथक्
And with various other vegetables, and ripe mangoes, each served separately.
सुवासितान्गोरसांश्च परिवेष्य मृदु ब्रुवन्
Having served them fragrant curries, gently speaking.
याच्यतां रोचते यच्च यन्मया पाचितं प्रभो
Let them request whatever pleases them, and whatever has been cooked by me, O Lord.
विसर्जयेत्ततो विप्रान्दत्त्वा तांबूलदक्षिणाः
Afterwards, one should dismiss the Brahmins, having given them betel and gifts.
यो ददाति द्विजश्रेष्ठे स भवेत्सुभगो नरः
He who gives to the best of Brahmins becomes a most fortunate man.
पुत्रसौभाग्ययुक्ता च तांबूलैर्जायते प्रिये
O beloved, betel brings the blessing of fortunate sons.
चूर्णकेनानलः प्रीतः खदिरेण तु मन्मथः
Fire is pleased by powder, and the god of love by khadira wood.
परितोष्य सपत्नीकान्हस्ते दत्त्वा च मोदकान्
Having satisfied the married couples, and given sweets into their hands.
असंक्रांते व्रतं नारी या करोतीह सुप्रिये 5.1.60.
O dearest, a woman who performs the vow here without transgression—
नरो वा यदि वा नारी यः कुर्याच्च मलिम्लुचे
Whether man or woman, whoever performs the rite for the Malimluce—
