नत्वा पादौ परिक्रम्य बहुमानपुरः सरम्
He bowed at his feet, circled him, and showed utmost respect.
आगता ते गृहं तात मम मार्गानुमोदिनी
She has come to your house, dear one, following my path.
इत्युक्ते वचने त्वष्ट्रा रविर्दुश्चिंतमानसः
When Tvaṣṭṛ spoke these words, Ravi’s mind was troubled.
किं करोमि क्व गच्छामि क्व च प्रियतरा मम
What shall I do? Where shall I go? Where is my beloved?
तव तेजः परिभ्रष्टा भग्ना क्वापि गताबला
Your radiance has been lost, broken, and has gone somewhere, deprived of its strength.
तदा ते रोचते सम्यग्यथा स्याद्वै तथा कुरु।।5.1.56.
Now, let it please you completely; do as it should be done.
इति सूर्यवचः श्रुत्वा शाणं कृत्वा सुदर्शनम्
Hearing these words of the Sun, he fashioned Sudarśana from a blade.
तस्य घृष्टितमात्रेण त्वष्टा चक्रे विवस्वतः
With just a touch of its edge, Tvaṣṭā made it for Vivasvat.
तदा त्वष्टाऽब्रवीद्वाक्यं मधुरं सूर्यसंनिधौ
Then Tvaṣṭā spoke sweet words in the presence of the Sun.
गृह्यतां भोः सुरश्रेष्ठ शीघ्रं गच्छतु शाड्वले
Let it be taken, O best of gods; let it quickly go to the meadow.
उभयोः संगमो यत्र तत्र मुक्तिर्न संशयः
Where the union of both occurs, there is liberation without doubt.
इति तस्य वचः श्रुत्वा सविता सर्वतापनः
Hearing these words, Savitā, the all-heating one,
क्षातासंगमसंयुक्ता यत्र शिप्रा पयस्विनी
Where the river Śiprā, rich in waters, is joined with the Kṣātāsaṃgama,
तत्रागत्य प्रियां भार्यां वडवारूपधारिणीम्
There, arriving, he saw his beloved wife, taking the form of a mare.
नासिकाघ्राणमात्रेण यत्र जातौ सुतावुभौ
Where, by merely smelling with the nose, both sons were born.
छाया च सुषुवे तत्र मिथुनं द्विजसत्तम 5.1.56.
There, Chāyā gave birth to twins, O best of twice-born.
शनि योगे यदामा वै जायते सर्वकामदा
When Saturn is in conjunction, all desires are fulfilled.
तस्य हस्तगता लक्ष्मीर्जायते सर्वदा भुवि
His fortune, held in his hand, always arises on earth.
स्थावरेशं समभ्यर्च्य तस्य पापक्षयो भवेत्
By worshipping the lord of the immovable, his sins are destroyed.
पिंगश्छायासुतो बभ्रुः स्थावरः पिप्पलायनः
Piṅga, Chāyā's son, Babhru, Sthāvara, and Pippalāyana.
तस्य शानैश्चरी पीडा न भवेत्तु कदाचन
He is never afflicted by the slow-moving Saturn.
यज्ञकुण्डोत्तरे भागे यत्र तिष्ठति मारुतिः
Where Maruti stands, in the northern part of the sacrificial altar.
यत्र सिद्धिं परां प्राप्तस्तपसा पवनात्मजः
There, the son of the wind attained supreme accomplishment through his austerities.
सवासो मणिमु क्ताभिः कांचनालंकृतं वरम्
His dwelling was adorned with jewels and decorated with gold, most excellent.
मातृलोकं समुत्तीर्णो ब्रह्मलोके महीयते
Having crossed over to the realm of the Mothers, he is honored in the world of Brahma.
धर्मतीर्थे सदाचारी स्नानदानादिकाः क्रियाः 5.1.56.
At the sacred place of Dharma, the righteous perform acts such as bathing and giving gifts.
च्यवनाश्रमे नरः स्नात्वा च्यवनेश्वरं विलोकयेत्
At the hermitage of Cyavana, a person should bathe and behold the Lord of Cyavana.
च्यवनस्य प्रसादेन देवपंक्तिमवापतुः
By the grace of Cyavana, they attain the company of the gods.
तस्मिंस्तीर्थे द्विजश्रेष्ठ दिव्यदृष्टिर्भवेन्नरः
At that holy place, O best of twice-born, a person attains divine vision.
अनु सूर्यां महाभागां सावित्रीं लोकविश्रुताम्
There, the highly fortunate and world-renowned Sāvitrī follows the Sun.
