भास्वान्सहस्रकिरणस्तदान्तर्द्धानमाययौ
The radiant one, with a thousand rays, then disappeared from sight.
राजा भास्करदेहोत्थां रविमूर्त्तिमनुत्तमाम्
The king obtained an unsurpassed form of the Sun, arising from the body of Bhāskara.
घोषार्ककुण्डं तन्नाम्ना तत्र ख्यातिं जगाम ह
That place became renowned by the name Ghoṣārka-kuṇḍa.
इति रुचिरविधानैस्तूर्णमादित्यमूर्त्तिं विमलपरमभक्त्या पूजयित्वाऽऽदरेण
Thus, with beautiful arrangements, he swiftly worshipped the form of the Sun with pure and supreme devotion and reverence.
रतिकुण्डमिति ख्यातं सर्वपापहरं सदा
It is always known as Ratikuṇḍa, the remover of all sins.
यत्र स्नानेन दानेन परां कांतिमवाप्नुयात्
By bathing and giving gifts there, one attains supreme brilliance.
कुंडं प्रसिद्धमतुलं सर्वकामार्थसिद्धये लभते ना विधानेन मुने नास्त्यत्र संशयः
The kuṇḍa, famed and unrivaled, grants the fulfillment of all desires and aims—one attains this without doubt, O sage, by proper observance.
रतिकुंडे तथा विप्र कुसुमायुधकुण्डके
In Ratikuṇḍa, O brāhmaṇa, and likewise in Kusumāyudha-kuṇḍa,
कुण्डद्वयेऽत्र मिथुनं यत्स्नानं कुरुते किल
If a couple bathes in these two kuṇḍas here,
तस्मादत्र विधानेन स्नातव्यं धर्मकांक्षिभिः
Therefore, those who desire righteousness should bathe here according to the prescribed method.
भवेतां नियतं तस्य संतुष्टौ रतिमन्मथौ
Certainly, Rati and Manmatha will be pleased with him.
रतिकुंडे पुरः स्नात्वा पश्चात्कंदर्प्पकुंडके
After bathing first in Ratikuṇḍa, then in Kaṃdarppa-kuṇḍa,
रतिकंदर्प्पयोः पूजा विधातव्या विशेषतः
The worship of Rati and Kaṃdarppa should especially be performed.
सर्वान्कामानवाप्नोति नात्र कार्या विचारणा ।। 2.8.8.
One attains all desires—there is no need for any doubt here.
चंदनागुरुकर्पूरकस्तूरीकुंकुमादिभिः
With sandalwood, aguru, camphor, musk, saffron, and the like,
एवं कृते न संदेहो रतिकंदर्पतुष्टये
When this is done, there is no doubt of the satisfaction of Rati and Kaṃdarppa.
कुसुमायुधकुंडात्तु प्रतीच्यां दिशि संस्थितम्
From Kusumāyudha-kuṇḍa, situated in the western direction,
तत्र तीर्थे नरः स्नात्वा दृष्ट्वा मन्त्रेश्वरं विभुम्
There, after bathing at that sacred place and seeing the Lord of Mantras, the Supreme,
पुरा रामो देवकार्यं विधायामलकर्मकृत्
Long ago, Rāma, having accomplished the task of the gods, performed a flawless rite.
स्वर्गं प्रति प्रयाणाय यत्र स्नातौ जितेंद्रियः
He, with his senses mastered, then prepared to depart for heaven, after bathing there.
तदुत्तरे सरो रम्यं कुमुदोत्पलमंडितम्
To the north of that place lies a beautiful lake, adorned with white lotuses and blue lilies.
मंत्रेश्वरस्य महिमा नहि केनापि शक्यते मंत्रेश्वरसमं लिंगं न भूतं न भविष्यति
The greatness of Maṃtreśvara cannot be described by anyone; never has there been, nor will there be, a liṅga equal to Maṃtreśvara.
सुगंधिपुष्पधूपादिकुसुमाद्यनुलेपनैः 2.8.8.
With fragrant flowers, incense, and various ointments and blossoms, it should be anointed.
एवं कृते न संदेहो मुक्तिस्तस्य करे स्थिता
When this is done, there is no doubt—liberation rests in his hand.
तां संपूज्य नरो विद्वान्सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते कर्त्तव्यं सुप्रयत्नेन नृभिः सर्वार्थसिद्धये
By worshipping it, a wise person is freed from all sins; it must be performed with great effort by people to attain all goals.
विस्फोटकादिकभये नरैश्च समुपस्थिते
Even when dangers such as explosions and the like arise and people are confronted by them—
तदुत्तरे तु तत्रैव देवी वन्दीति विश्रुता
To the north of that, right there, is the renowned goddess called Vanditī.
राज्ञा क्रुद्धेन ये बद्धाः शृंखलानिगडादिभिः
Those who are bound by an angry king with chains, shackles, and the like—
यात्रा तस्याः प्रयत्नेन कर्तव्या यत्नतो नरैः
A pilgrimage to her must be undertaken with care and effort by people.
गंधैः पुष्पैस्तथा धूपैर्दीपैरपि च सुव्रत
With scents, flowers, incense, and also with lamps, O steadfast one—
