मरीचेः कश्यपो जज्ञे ततः सर्वं प्रतिष्ठितम्
From Marīci, Kaśyapa was born, and from him, all things were established.
नंदनं चापि तत्रैव महाकालवनोत्तमे
And Nandana too was there, in that most excellent Mahākāla forest.
सा सिषेवे सदा तत्र महाकालं महेश्वरम्
She always served Mahākāla, the great Lord, there.
बिंदुसरः समाख्यातं मानसं सर उत्तमम्
Bindu Lake is renowned as the supreme Mānasa Lake.
मुक्तामणिगणाकीर्णं रत्नशोभनशोभितम्
It is adorned with clusters of pearls and shines with the brilliance of jewels.
यानि यानि च दिव्यानि संति ब्रह्माण्डगोलके
Whatever divine things exist within the sphere of the universe,
तेनतेनात्मयोगेन मानवाश्चात्र संस्थिताः
By that very union of self, humans are established here.
अन्योन्यं च समाकीर्णा सर्वे चामरसंनिभाः
All are mingled with one another, and all resemble the immortals.
अमरांगनासमा नार्यः सदैव स्थिरयौवनाः 5.1.46.
The women are equal to celestial maidens, always possessing youthful vigor.
देवदानवगन्धर्वैः किन्नरोरगराक्षसैः
With gods, demons, gandharvas, kinnaras, serpents, and rākṣasas,
अमराणां कटकं ह्यत्र तस्माजातामरावती
Here is the encampment of the immortals; thus Amarāvatī arose.
स्नानदानादिकं कृत्वा पश्यत्येव महेश्वरम्
After performing bathing, giving, and other rites, one beholds the great Lord.
सर्वभोगानवाप्नोति मृतः शिवपुरं व्रजेत्
One attains all enjoyments; when dead, one goes to the city of Śiva.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां पञ्चम आवंत्यखण्डेऽवन्तीक्षेत्रमाहात्म्येऽमरावतीनामकथनंनाम षट्चत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the forty-sixth chapter, named 'The Account of Amarāvatī,' in the section on the glory of the Avantī region, in the fifth Avantī book of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Śrī Skanda Mahāpurāṇa.
विशाला च समाख्याता सर्वलोकेषु गीयते
Viśālā is renowned and sung of in all worlds.
तथाहं संप्रवक्ष्यामि ब्रह्मणा कथितं पुरा
So I will now declare what was formerly spoken by Brahmā.
उमया सहितो देव एक एवाचरद्वने
The god, united with Umā, wandered alone in the forest.
विष्णुर्दशाकृतिर्यत्र देव्यो वै लोकमातरः
There, Viṣṇu in ten forms, and the goddesses, mothers of the worlds.
कल्पोद्भेदाश्च लिंगाश्च चतुराशीतिसंख्यकाः
The manifestations of the kalpas and the forms of the liṅgas number eighty-four.
पितरो लोकपालाश्च सिद्धाः सिद्धिप्रदाश्च ये
The ancestors, the guardians of the worlds, and the siddhas who grant accomplishments—
किंनरा देवगन्धर्वा ह्यप्सराश्च वरांगनाः
Kinnaras, divine Gandharvas, and Apsaras of exquisite beauty,
यक्षा गुह्यकसंघाश्च पिशाचोरगराक्षसाः
Yakṣas, hosts of Guhyakas, Piśācas, serpents, and Rākṣasas—
उपासांचक्रिरे तत्र देवदेवमुमापतिम् उवाच श्लक्ष्णया वाचा शंकरं जगदाश्रयम्
All of them worshipped there the god of gods, the consort of Umā, and addressed Śaṃkara, the refuge of the world, with gentle words.
पश्य एतान्महाभागान्ध्यायमानांस्तवाश्रितान् ।।5.1.47.
Behold these greatly fortunate ones, absorbed in meditation, devoted to your praise.
नानुपेक्ष्याश्च तान्सर्वान्वातवर्षातपार्दितान्
They should not be neglected, all those afflicted by wind, rain, and heat.
यथायोग्यं वासनार्थं स्थानं परमशोभनम्
Provide, as appropriate, a most splendid place for their residence.
एषा मे वासना स्वामिन्भवतां यदि रोचते कल्पयामास पुरीं रम्यां सर्वभूतमनोरमाम्
This is my wish, O Lord, if it pleases you: let a delightful city be established, enchanting to all beings.
बहुयोजनविस्तीर्णां दिव्यां दिव्यजनप्रियाम्
Vast in extent by many yojanas, divine, and beloved by celestial beings.
दिव्याभिप्रायसंयुक्तां दिव्यस्थानमनोरमाम्
Endowed with divine intentions, and possessing a divine, charming location.
क्रयविक्रयसंपन्नहट्टाट्टालकचत्वराम्
Filled with markets for buying and selling, towers, and crossroads.
