चिंतयन्मनसा वीरस्तपः कर्तुं समुद्यतः
Contemplating in his mind, the valiant one resolved to undertake austerities.
ग्रीष्मे पंचाग्निमध्यस्थो ह्यतपत्स महातपाः
In the summer, standing amidst five fires, that great ascetic performed severe penance.
स्नात्वा यथोक्तविधिना कृत्वा विष्णोस्तथार्चनम्
Having bathed according to the prescribed manner, he performed worship of Vishnu as instructed.
मनो विष्णौ समावेश्य विधाय प्राणसंयमम्
Focusing his mind on Vishnu, he controlled his breath as required.
तन्मध्ये रविसोमाग्निमण्डलानि यथाविधि
Within that, he visualized the circles of the sun, moon, and fire as prescribed.
पीतांबरधरं विष्णुं शंखचक्रगदाधरम्
He meditated on Vishnu, clad in yellow garments, holding the conch, discus, and mace.
ब्रह्मरूपं हरिं ध्यायञ्जपन्वै द्वादशाक्षरम्
Contemplating Hari in the form of Brahma, he recited the twelve-syllable mantra.
ततो द्विजवरो ध्यात्वा स्तुतिं चक्रे हरेरिमाम् विष्णुशर्माथ तुष्टाव नारायणमतंद्रितः
Then, having meditated, the excellent Brahmin composed this praise of Hari; Vishnuśarma worshipped Nārāyaṇa with unwavering devotion.
प्रसीद देवदेवेश प्रसीद कमलेक्षण
Be gracious, Lord of gods; be gracious, lotus-eyed one.
जय कृष्ण जयाचिंत्य जय विष्णो जयाव्यय 2.8.1.
Victory to Krishna, victory to the inconceivable one, victory to Vishnu, victory to the imperishable.
जय पापहरानंत जय जन्मज्वरापह
Victory to the remover of sin, victory to the one who dispels the fever of birth.
नमः सर्वेश भूतेश नमः कैटभसूदन
Salutations to the lord of all, to the lord of beings, salutations to the slayer of Kaitabha.
नमो देवाधिदेवाय नमो नारायणाय वै
Salutations to the god of gods, salutations indeed to Nārāyaṇa.
त्वं माता सर्वलोकानां त्वमेव जगतः पिता
You are the mother of all worlds; you alone are the father of the universe.
त्वं हविस्त्वं वषट्कारस्त्वं प्रभुस्त्वं हुताशनः
You are the offering, you are the utterance 'vaṣaṭ', you are the master, you are the fire of sacrifice.
शंखचक्रगदापाणे मां समुद्धर माधव
O Mādhava, bearer of the conch, discus, and mace, uplift me.
प्रसीद मंदरधर प्रसीद मधुसूदन
Be gracious, O bearer of Mandara; be gracious, O slayer of Madhu.
आविर्बभूव विश्वात्मा विष्णुर्गरुडवाहनः
Vishnu, the soul of the universe, appeared, riding Garuda.
शंखचक्रगदापाणिः पीतांबरधरोऽच्युतः
He was Achyuta, holding the conch, discus, and mace, clad in yellow garments.
स्तोत्रेणानेन सुमते नष्टपापोऽसि सांप्रतम् ।।2.8.1.
O wise one, by this hymn your sins are now destroyed.
वरं वरय विप्रेन्द्र वरदोऽहं तवाग्रतः
Choose a boon, O foremost of Brahmins; I stand before you as the grantor of boons.
त्वद्भक्तिमचलामेकां मम देहि जगत्पते
O Lord of the universe, grant me unwavering and exclusive devotion to you.
श्रीभगवानुवाच भक्तिरस्त्वचला मे वै वैष्णवी मुक्तिदायिनी
The Blessed Lord said: You indeed possess unwavering devotion to me, the Vaishnavi devotion that bestows liberation.
इदं स्थानं महाभाग त्वन्नाम्ना ख्यातिमेष्यति
O highly fortunate one, this place will become renowned by your name.
जलं प्रकटयामास गांगं पातालमंडलात्
He revealed the water of the Ganga from the realm of the netherworld.
जलेन तेन भगवान्पवित्रेण दयांबुधिः
With that pure water, the Lord, ocean of compassion, performed ablutions.
चक्रतीर्थमिति ख्यातं ततः प्रभृति तद्द्विज
From that time onward, O twice-born, it became known as Cakra-tirtha.
तत्र स्नानेन दानेन विष्णुलोकं व्रजेन्नरः
By bathing and giving gifts there, a man attains the world of Vishnu.
ततः स भगवान्भूयो विष्णुशर्माणमच्युतः
Then the Blessed Lord again addressed Vishnusharman.
विष्णुहरीति विख्याता भक्तानां मुक्तिदायिनी ।।2.8.1.
Vishnuhari, renowned as the bestower of liberation to devotees, is established there.
