न तेषां दुष्कृतं किंचिन्न दारिद्र्यं न दुर्गतिः
For them, there is no evil deed, no poverty, no misfortune.
धनार्थी चैव पुत्रार्थो विद्यार्थो बहुकामुकः
Whoever seeks wealth, children, knowledge, or many desires—
सर्वान्कामानवाप्नोति शिवः साक्षाद्भवेन्नरः
He attains all desires, and the man becomes truly blessed.
ये शृण्वंति कथां पुण्यां ये श्रावयंति नित्यशः
Those who listen to this holy story, and those who recite it daily—
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां पञ्चम आवंत्यखंडेऽवन्तीक्षेत्रमाहात्म्ये पद्मावतीनामकथावर्णनंनाम चतुश्चत्वारिं शोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the forty-fourth chapter, called 'The Description of the Story of Padmavati,' in the section on the greatness of the Avanti region, in the fifth Avanti Khanda of the glorious Skanda Mahapurana, comprising eighty-one thousand verses.
एषा कुमुद्वती जाता यथा पद्मावती पुरी
This Kumudvati was born just as the city of Padmavati was.
एकदा तीर्थयात्रायां गतोऽहं वै कुशस्थलीम्
Once, during a pilgrimage, I went to Kushasthali.
यस्य दर्शनमात्रेण ब्रह्महत्यां व्यपोहति
By merely seeing it, one is freed from the sin of killing a Brahmin.
यज्ञांश्चैव तथा चित्रानृत्विजोदारकर्मणः
There, various sacrifices are performed by priests of noble deeds.
ऋषिपत्न्यस्तथा साध्व्यः परिचर्यां प्रकुर्वते
The wives of sages, who are virtuous, also serve there.
रुद्रा ह्येकादश प्रोक्ता द्वादशार्कास्तथैव च
There are said to be eleven Rudras and likewise twelve Suns.
अष्टौ च दिग्गजाश्चैव मनवश्च चतुर्दश
There are also eight guardian elephants of the directions and fourteen Manus.
गंधर्वासरसश्चैव किंनरोरगराक्षसाः । सिद्धास्तपस्विनो वत्स तत्रैव समुपस्थिताः
Gandharvas, Apsaras, Kinnaras, Nagas, Rakshasas, Siddhas, and ascetics, dear one, are also present there.
अष्टौ वै भैरवाः ख्याताश्चत्वारः पवनात्मजाः
There are eight renowned Bhairavas and four sons of the Wind.
एते देवगणाः प्रोक्ता रौद्राश्चैव तथा गणाः 5.1.45.
These divine hosts have been described, as well as the fierce groups.
दक्षः प्रजापतिश्रेष्ठो दितिर्वै देवमातरः । सुरभीप्रमुखा गावः स्थावराणि चराणि च
Daksha, the foremost Prajapati, Diti, the mother of the gods, cows led by Surabhi, and all stationary and moving beings.
तीर्थानि यानि सर्वाणि नद्यः प्रस्रवणानि च
All the sacred places, rivers, and springs.
सप्त पुर्यस्त्रयो ग्रामा नवारण्या नवोषराः
Seven cities, three villages, nine forests, and nine wastelands.
समुद्राश्चैव चत्वारो रत्नानि विविधानि च राजर्षयस्तथा शांता ब्राह्मणा वेदपारगाः
And four oceans, various kinds of jewels, peaceful royal sages, and Brahmins accomplished in the Vedas.
वेदाः पुराणस्मृतयो गाथा गीतिप्रहे लिकाः
The Vedas, the Purāṇas, the Smṛtis, songs, and musical compositions.
तस्य दर्शनमात्रेण जातोऽहं विज्वरोऽमलः
By merely seeing her, I became free from fever and pure.
स्नातोऽहं सर्वतीर्थेषु शुचिर्भूत्वा समाहितः
I have bathed in all the sacred waters, becoming pure and composed.
दृष्ट्वा पद्मावतीं शुद्धां सर्वकामवरप्रदाम्
Having seen Padmavati, pure and bestower of all desired boons.
न दुःखी न च दारिद्रो न मूर्खो नाजितेंद्रियः
There is no sorrow, no poverty, no ignorance, nor uncontrolled senses.
अन्योन्यं सर्वमित्राणि अन्योन्यं चोपकारिणः 5.1.45.
All are mutual friends and mutually helpful to each other.
उद्यानानि च रम्याणि वनान्युपवनानि च
There are delightful gardens, forests, and groves.
नानारत्नसमाकीर्णैर्हेमकुंभैः सुशोभनैः
Adorned with various jewels and beautiful golden vessels.
सदैव वसते यत्र उमया सह शंकरः
Where Śaṃkara always dwells together with Umā.
चंद्रज्योत्स्नाकलापूर्णमरीचिभिः सदा बभौ
It always shone with beams filled with moonlight.
सदैव पुष्पिता श्यामा बाल्यरूपवती यथा
Always blooming, dark-hued, as if possessing the form of youth.
