Filled with hosts of Prajapatis and the fourteen Manus,
And frequented by virtuous people of good conduct and merit,
Adorned with jeweled gems and steps, and beautified by divine lakes,
A place free from the six waves of suffering, where birds reside, beginning to sing praises to the Lord of gods and the master of the universe,
Homage to the fierce one in the form of Narasimha, and to the one who took the form of Varaha,
Salutations to Vāsudeva, the peaceful one, the lord of the Yadus,
As they were engaged in these hymns, a bodiless voice spoke,
In the delightful great forest of Time, attended by hosts of Brahmarshis,
There is a beautiful place called Kuśasthalī, served by Siddhas and Gandharvas,
At the end of the age, all moving and unmoving beings come to destruction,
All rivers, oceans, lakes, and groves,
The luminaries, the moon and the sun—all the universe is pervaded by Viṣṇu,
Having taken everything into himself, the blessed Śaṅkara remains there,
The Veda is the essence of all sacrifices, and compassion is the essence of all righteousness,
Therefore, O best of gods, this land of the Kurus is truly beneficial,
Therefore, Kāśī is ten times greater, and Gayā is ten times greater than Kāśī,
Thousands of eclipses and tens of thousands of planetary conjunctions,
A gift given at the waning of a hundred thousand moons is equal to a thousand at the two solstices.
Therefore, O gods, this city called Kuśasthalī is beneficial.
All of this, O best of gods, shall indeed become imperishable.
When your merit is exhausted, O gods, you are afflicted by that.
There, having gone, you should perform bathing, giving, and other rites upon the earth.
Having heard these words of hers, which were spoken and went forth into the sky,
Then all the gods returned to the forest of Maheśvara.
It was filled with the four castes and attended by sages and gandharvas.
There is no one poor, dull, foolish, diseased, or envious.
There, people are generous, peaceful, virtuous, and free from old age and disease.
Men reside there, and women who are devoted to their husbands.
Seeing such a city, the gods attained supreme joy.
It is always served by the virtuous, and is endowed with all sacred bathing places.
