तस्मिन्मुखे कपालाग्रं निधाय रुषितानना
Upon that mouth, placing the tip of a skull, her face enraged.
तया पिबंत्या दैत्येंद्रः शरीरे कृशतां गतः
As she drank, the lord of the demons became emaciated in body.
इत्थं निर्वीर्यदेहोऽसौ बभूवांध कदानवः
Thus, his body rendered powerless, that Dānava became blind.
तीव्रं भयं समासाद्य प्राणत्राणपरायणः
Overcome by intense fear, he became intent solely on saving his life.
कृतांजलिपुटो भूत्वा रोमांचितशरीरकः
With hands joined in reverence, his body bristling with hair.
लोकानां कारणं देवं विबुधाधि पतिं प्रभुम्
He praised the god, the lord of the gods, the master, the cause of the worlds.
श्लाघ्यं शिवं च तुष्टाव देवं चंद्रार्धशेखरम् ।। 5.1.38.
He extolled the praiseworthy Śiva, the god adorned with the crescent moon.
संसारहेतुरपि यः पुनरंतकाले तं शंकरं शरणदं शरणं व्रजामि
He who is the cause of worldly existence, yet at the end of time grants refuge—I seek refuge in that Śaṃkara.
यं योगिनो विगतमोहतमोरजस्का भक्त्यैकतानमनसो विनिवृत्तकामाः
Whom yogis, free from delusion and darkness, with minds devoted in single-pointed devotion, and desires turned away, (attain).
यश्चंद्रखंडममलं विलसन्मयूखं बद्ध्वा सदा सुरसरिच्छिरसा बिभर्ति
Who always bears the pure crescent moon, shining with rays, bound upon his head with the celestial river.
यः सिद्धचारणनिषेवितपादपद्मो गंगां महोर्मिविषमां गगनात्पतंतीम्
Whose lotus feet are served by Siddhas and Cāraṇas, who bears Gaṅgā, wild with great waves, as she falls from the sky.
कैलासशैलशिखरं प्रविकंप्यमानं कैलासशृंगसदृशेन दशाननेन
When the peak of Mount Kailāsa was shaken by Rāvaṇa, whose ten heads resembled the summit of Kailāsa.
दक्षाध्वरे च नयने च तथा भगस्य पूष्णस्तथा दशनपंक्तिमशातयद्यः
He who destroyed the eye at Daksha’s sacrifice, and likewise the eyes of Bhaga and Pūṣan, and shattered Pūṣan’s row of teeth.
येनासकृद्दितिसुताश्च दनोः सुताश्च विद्याधरोरगगणाश्च वरैः समग्रैः
By whom, again and again, the sons of Diti, the sons of Danu, and the hosts of Vidyādharas and serpents were subdued with complete boons.
एवं कृतेपि विषयेष्वपि सक्तभावा ज्ञानेन च श्रुतगुणैरपि तेन युक्ताः
Even so, though engaged in worldly matters, those endowed with knowledge and the virtues of sacred learning are united with him.
ब्रह्मेंद्रविष्णुमरुतां च सषण्मुखानां योऽदाद्वरान्सुबहुशो भगवान्महेशः
The blessed Maheśa, who granted many boons to Brahma, Indra, Vishnu, the Maruts, and the six-faced ones.
आराधितस्तु तपसा हिमवन्निकुंजे धूम्रव्रतेन तपसा च परैरगम्यः 5.1.38.
He was worshipped through austerity in the groves of Himavat, with the smoky vow and asceticism, inaccessible to others.
क्रीडार्थमेव भगवान्भुवनानि सप्त नानानदीविहगपादपमंडितानि
The blessed Lord, for the sake of play, created the seven worlds adorned with various rivers, birds, and trees.
यः सव्यपाणिकमलाग्रनखेन देवस्तत्पंचमं प्रसभमेव करालरंध्रम्
The god who, with the nail of the lotus at the tip of his left hand, forcefully pierced the fifth opening.
ये त्वां सुरोत्तमगुरुं पुरुषा विमूढा जानंति नास्य जगतः सचराचरस्य
Those men, deluded, who do not know you as the supreme teacher, do not know the true nature of this world, with its moving and unmoving beings.
यः पठेत्स्तुतिमिमां शुचिकर्मा यः शृणोति सततं शिवभक्तः
He who recites this praise, pure in action, or who constantly listens, devoted to Shiva.
पूर्णे वर्षशतस्यांते प्रीतः प्रोवाच शंकरः
When a full hundred years had passed, pleased, Śaṃkara spoke.
पुत्र तुष्टोऽस्मि भद्रं ते जातस्त्वं निर्मलोऽधुना
Son, I am satisfied; may you be blessed. You are now born pure.
यच्च ते मनसा वापि किंचिच्च कांक्षितं फलम्
Whatever fruit you desire, whether by mind or otherwise,
विदितं मम तत्सर्वं मनागपि न कांक्षये
All that is known to me; I do not wish for even the slightest thing.
यदि तुष्टोऽसि देवेश गाणपत्यं ददस्व मे
If you are pleased, Lord of gods, grant me lordship over the Gaṇas.
भविष्यसि गणाध्यक्षः सर्वलोकनमस्कृतः ।। 5.1.38.
You shall become chief of the Gaṇas, honored by all worlds.
कामरूपो महायोगी महासत्त्वो महाबलः
You will possess any form you wish, be a great yogi, of great resolve, and great strength.
महादेवगणो भूत्वा तत्रैवांतरधीयत
Having become the leader of the great gods, he vanished right there.
गतेंऽधके ततो देव्यो ब्रह्माण्याद्याः समागताः
When Andhaka departed, then the goddesses, beginning with Brahmāṇī, assembled.
