असाध्यांस्तांस्तथा मत्वा मंत्रं कृत्वा हितैषिणः
Considering them impossible to overcome, the well-wishers devised a plan.
इत्युक्त्वोत्पादयामास ब्रह्मा हंसासनां शुभाम्
Having spoken thus, Brahma produced the auspicious seat of the swan.
कुमारश्चैव कौमारीं मयूरवरवाहनाम् 5.1.37.
And Kumara created the Kaumari, with the peacock as her splendid mount.
पुनः कुमारः कौमारीं पक्षींद्रवरवाहनाम्
Again, Kumara created Kaumari, whose mount was the lord of birds.
दैत्यदेहप्रमथनीं दंडमुद्गरधारिणीम्
She who crushes the bodies of demons, wielding club and mace.
सिंहाजिनधरां कृष्णां सर्वभूषणभूषिताम् चर्मास्थिकेशवपुषं चामुंडाममृजत्प्रभुः
Clad in lion skin, dark in complexion, adorned with all ornaments, with a body of hide, bone, and hair, the Lord fashioned Chamunda.
वटस्य निकटे पूर्वं निर्मिता लोकमातरः
Near the banyan tree, the mothers of the world were formerly created.
तत्र स्नात्वा शुचिर्भूत्वा मातॄः पश्यति यो नरः
Whoever, having bathed and become pure, sees the Mothers there.
सिंहनादोऽपि देवेन कृतो यत्र महामुने
There, O great sage, the lion's roar was also made by the god.
दर्शनात्तस्य देवस्य सिंहवत्स बली भवेत्
By seeing that god, one becomes strong like a lion.
तत्र कण्टेश्वरो देवो भक्तानां सर्वदः सदा
There, the god Kaṇṭeśvara always gives to his devotees.
ग्रहभूतपिशाचेभ्यो न भयं प्राप्नुयात्क्वचित्
One never experiences fear from planets, spirits, or ghosts.
अन्धासुरस्य रौद्रस्य पिबध्वं रुधिरं द्रुतम् 5.1.37.
Drink quickly the blood of the fierce blind demon.
अभयं शक्र मा भैस्त्वं यत्रोवाचेति शंकरः
Do not fear, O Shakra; here, said Shankara, is safety.
वंदितं देवगंधर्वैः सिद्धविद्याधरोरगैः
Praised by gods, Gandharvas, Siddhas, Vidyadharas, and serpents.
अर्चये द्देवदेवेशमश्वमेधफलं लभेत्
Whoever worships the Lord of gods there obtains the fruit of an Ashvamedha sacrifice.
सिंहयुक्तेन यानेन शिवलोकं स गच्छति
He goes to the realm of Shiva in a vehicle drawn by lions.
मातृभिर्युध्यमानाभिः क्षयमाशु जगाम सा
She quickly reached destruction, fighting with the Mothers.
षट्तृप्तिं परमा जग्मुर्न तु तृप्ता ललाटजा
They attained the highest satisfaction, but the one born from the forehead was not satisfied.
उत्तराभिमुखं शूलमंधकोऽकर्षयद्बली
The powerful Andhaka pulled the trident facing north.
महाविनायकः ख्यातस्तस्माल्लोकेऽभवन्मुने
Therefore, O sage, he became renowned in the world as Mahāvināyaka.
मासेमासे चतुर्थ्यां यो गणेशं पूजयेद्द्विज
Every month, on the fourth day, the twice-born who worships Ganesha—
स्वेदबिंदुरथो तस्य ललाटादपतद्भुवि 5.1.37.
Then a drop of sweat fell from his forehead onto the earth.
आवन्त्ये विषये जातो लोहितांगो धरासुतः
In the region of Avanti, the son of the earth was born with a red body.
नामभिर्ब्रह्मणा स्तुत्वा ग्रहमध्येऽधिरोपितः
Having praised him with names, Brahma placed him among the planets.
ब्रह्मणा स्थापितं लिंगं गणगंधर्वसेवितम्
The linga established by Brahma, attended by hosts and Gandharvas—
दृष्ट्वांगारेश्वरं सोथ मुच्यते सर्वपातकैः
Seeing Aṅgāreśvara there, one is freed from all sins.
यावत्पूर्णाश्चतस्रः स्युस्तावत्कार्याः प्रयत्नतः
As long as all four are complete, so long should they be performed with effort.
गुडपीठमयाः कार्या रक्तवस्त्रसमन्विताः
They should be made of jaggery cakes, accompanied by red cloth.
तिलतण्डुलसंपूर्णमेकं तत्रैव कारयेत्
One should prepare one filled with sesame and rice right there.
