He who gives a thousand cows at the time of the hundredth Vyatipāta day—
Whoever causes the shaving to be done while mounted on the Sun’s chariot,
Or daily, for a month, in front of the Sun at the pond, O Sarasvatī,
He who, with devotion, beholds the Sun’s chariot every day, O Vyāsa,
Having played with his relatives, when he dies, he goes to the city of the Sun.
When Andhaka was slain by Maheshvara with the trident bearing three points,
Then Viṣṇu blew the conch, desiring the welfare of the gods.
There Viṣṇu was present, and also the four-faced liṅga.
On the right side of the deity, established with the trident, he stood.
Those whose masses of all sins have been destroyed will attain the highest state.
He is not afflicted by spirits, ghosts, or fiends of any kind.
Whoever beholds the god bearing the conch attains the abode of the imperishable.
He is manifest as gross, subtle, and evident; he is all beings, yet not all beings.
Sanatkumara said: When the triśūla pierced Andhaka, the sound of Rudra emerged.
There, after bathing and becoming pure, and with discipline of concentration,
Having slain Andhaka, the triśūla entered the waters of Bhogavati; it asked, 'For what purpose have you come here?'
That triśūla spoke, 'I have been sent by Śaṃkara.'
Having pierced him, I have arrived in the auspicious waters of Bhogavati.
Hearing the words spoken by the triśūla, desiring to see the Supreme Lord, surrounded by many faces, radiant and most delightful,
Seeing him, all the gods beheld Śūleśa, the Lord of Hāṭaka.
Led by Brahmā and Viṣṇu, they praised him with various hymns.
He emerged along the path of the triśūla; thus he is remembered as Śūleśvara.
There, the sinful king of the demons was shaken by the triśūla, mighty in strength.
On the eighth day, or on the full moon, or on the fourteenth, and also on Saturday,
Whoever beholds the god of gods, Maheśvara, cleansed of sin,
Lifting up a hundred families, he attains the realm of Śiva.
By the power of Śūleśvara, one is freed from the sin of killing a Brāhmaṇa.
Thus, this triśūla of Andhaka went as far as Bhogavati.
With sword in hand, of great valor, numbering in the hundreds, he let out a lion's roar, though afflicted by those evil-hearted ones.
Struck by the lion's roar, those wicked ones fainted and fell to the ground; then the gods, led by Brahma and Vishnu, became fearful.
