तां दृष्ट्वा तपसोपेतां ब्रह्मचारिवया हरः
Seeing her endowed with austerity, Shiva, in the age of celibacy, beheld her.
कृशमध्ये कृशापांगि किमर्थं नवयौवने
With a slender waist and delicate limbs, why, in the bloom of youth?
उवाच चोत्तरं सा वै सत्यं च मधुरं तथा
She spoke in reply, indeed truthfully and sweetly.
विचार्य च हरः श्रुत्वाऽनंदयत्कार्यमात्मनः
Having considered and heard, Hara rejoiced in his own purpose.
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा न सेहे सा गिरेः सुता स्वं वपुर्दर्शयामास त्रिनेत्रं शूलपाणिनम्
Hearing those words, the daughter of the mountain could not endure; she revealed her own form, the three-eyed, holding the trident.
लज्जिताभूद्भवानीशं दृष्ट्वा तस्थावधोमुखी पार्वतीहरणार्थाय यत्नं च प्रकरोम्यहम्
Bhavani became bashful, seeing the lord; she stood with face lowered, and I exert myself for the sake of abducting Parvati.
इत्युक्त्वांतर्दधे देवो देव्यागाच्च पितुर्गृहम्
Having spoken thus, the god vanished, and the goddess returned to her father's house.
प्रणेमुस्तेप्यथागम्य संस्मृताः परमेश्वरम् 5.1.34.
After arriving there, they bowed down and remembered the Supreme Lord.
ततोऽब्रवीन्मुनीनीशः समस्तांश्च गिरेर्गृहम्
Then the Lord addressed all the sages at the house of the mountain king.
तथेति ते प्रतिज्ञाय संकेतं शंभुना समम्
They agreed, saying, 'So be it,' and made an arrangement together with Śambhu.
दत्तार्घा भूधरेंद्रेण कृतासन परिग्रहाः
The king of mountains offered water for washing the hands and feet, and seats were duly accepted.
दत्तेत्युक्ता गिरींद्रेण निरूप्योद्वाहवासरम्
When the king of mountains said, 'Given,' the wedding day was then determined.
ऊचुस्ते शंकरं सर्वे दत्ता हिमवता शिवा
All of them said to Śaṃkara, 'Śivā has been given by Himavat.'
चक्रुर्विवाह सामग्रीं ब्रह्मेन्द्रादिसुरास्तदा
Then Brahmā, Indra, and the other gods prepared the wedding materials.
शंखदुंदुभिनादैश्च ब्रह्माद्यैरमरैः सह
With the sound of conches and drums, together with Brahmā and the other immortals.
विवाह्येमां विधानेन जगाम स्वालयं पुनः
Having married her according to the prescribed rites, he returned again to his own abode.
तावत्त्रस्तैः सुरैरग्निः प्रेषितोऽगान्महेश्वरम्
Meanwhile, the frightened gods sent Agni, who went to Maheśvara.
निचिक्षेप मुखे वह्नेः स्वरेतो व्रीडितो भृशम् 5.1.34.
Agni, greatly embarrassed, placed Śiva's seed in his own mouth.
हररेतोऽग्निनोद्गीर्णं गंगामध्ये पपात ह
Śiva's seed, cast out by Agni, fell into the middle of the Gaṅgā.
सप्तर्षीणां च षट्पत्न्यः स्नानार्थं जाह्नवीं ययुः
The six wives of the seven sages went to the Jahnavī for bathing.
मत्वाग्निमिति ताः सर्वास्तपंति स्म यथेच्छया
Thinking it was fire, all of them performed penance there as they wished.
षडाननं समारूढं श्रोणिद्वारेण सत्वरम्
The six-faced one was swiftly born through the opening of the hip.
चिंतां जग्मुस्तदा सर्वा मुनित्रासात्ततो भयात्
Then, out of fear of the sages, all the women became anxious.
षड्भिरेकत्वमापद्य श्वेतपर्वतमस्तके
Becoming one with the six, he reached the summit of the White Mountain.
शुक्लायां प्रतिपद्यासीद्द्वितीयायां समीकृतः
On the first day of the bright fortnight, he appeared; on the second day, he was made complete.
चतुर्थ्यां परिपूर्णांगः षण्मुखो द्वादशेक्षणः
On the fourth day, with all limbs perfected, the six-faced one, possessing twelve eyes, was manifest.
तेजसा श्वेतताम्रेण तताप स जगत्त्रयम्
With his radiant white and coppery brilliance, he illuminated the three worlds.
समागत्यास्य संस्कारं ब्रह्मा चक्रे यथाविधि 5.1.34.
Having gathered together, Brahma performed his consecration according to the prescribed rites.
ततो गौर्या मयूरश्च वाहने परिकल्पितः
Then, by Gauri, the peacock was appointed as his vehicle.
शूलेन कृत्तिकाभिश्च वर्धितः पुत्रकाम्यया
With the spear and by the Krittikas, he was nurtured out of desire for a son.
