प्राप्ते लग्ने च हरिणा शंखश्चापूरितो महान्
When the auspicious moment arrived, Hari filled the great conch.
भवति विगतपापं कीर्तनादेव यस्य प्रचुरकलुषदोषैर्ग्रस्तमंगं नराणाम्
One whose body is afflicted by abundant impurities and faults becomes free from sin merely by reciting his name.
ब्रह्माद्यैर्मुनिभिरभिष्टुतं पतंगं कः स्तोतुं कविरभिवांछते प्रकामम्
Who among poets, desiring greatly, would wish to praise the Sun, who is lauded by Brahma and other sages?
शास्त्रार्थकामनिपुणैर्मुनिभिः स्तुतस्य किं वस्तु यन्न रचितं विविधैः प्रयोगैः
What thing remains uncreated by those skilled sages, praised for their mastery of scripture and diverse applications?
कामं तथाप्यहमतीव विचार्य ब्रुद्ध्या भानोस्त्रिलोकगुरुपूजितपादयुग्मम्
Yet, even so, having considered deeply, I shall praise the pair of feet of the Sun, revered by the Guru of the three worlds.
तावज्जगद्भवति निश्चलमेव सर्वं तावत्क्रियाश्च विविधा न च यांति सिद्धिम्
So long as that happens, the entire world remains unmoving; so long, various actions do not attain success.
तावन्न भांति शिखराणि महीरुहाणां गुच्छैस्तु फुल्लवनमीलितलोचनानि
So long, the peaks of trees do not shine, nor do the clusters of flowers close their eyes in blooming forests.
उद्यंतमंबरतले सुरसिद्धसंघाः सब्रह्मदैत्यमुनिकिन्नरनागयक्षाः 5.1.32.
When he rises in the sky, the hosts of gods and siddhas, along with Brahma, demons, sages, kinnara, men, nāgas, and yakṣas—
अस्तं गते त्वयि जगद्भवति प्रसुप्तं भूयस्त्वयि प्रतपति प्रतिबोधमेति
When you set, the world becomes asleep; when you shine again, it awakens.
उत्साहशक्तिनयशौर्यसमन्वितानां सेवाप्रयोगरचनाविधितत्पराणाम् ६२
For those endowed with enthusiasm, strength, guidance, and valor, whose service, application, and creation are devoted to you—
यत्संयुगेषु रथकुञ्जरकुन्तशक्तिनाराचचक्रशरतोमरभीमखड्गैः
In battles, with chariots, elephants, spears, javelins, arrows, wheels, shafts, and terrifying swords—
कांतारदुर्गविषमेष्वपि वर्तमाना ऋक्षेभसिंहबहुकण्टकतस्करेषु
Even when dwelling in difficult forests, fortresses, among bears, lions, many-thorned thieves—
तेजोराशिस्त्वमिह शरणं सर्वतोदुःखितानां त्वत्तुल्योऽन्यो जगति सकले नास्ति कश्चिद्दयालुः
You are the repository of brilliance here, the refuge for all those afflicted; in the entire world, there is no one as compassionate as you.
कः कुष्ठाभिहतः क्व चारिभिरथो को व्याधिभिः पीडितः के पंग्वंधजडाः क्व शीर्णचरणः को वा विपन्नक्रियः
Who is struck by leprosy, who by enemies, who is afflicted by diseases, who is lame, blind, dull, whose feet are withered, or whose actions have failed?
धर्मः परत्र किल तिष्ठति सेवितोऽसौ कालांतरेण विबुधा वरदा भवंति
Righteousness, when served, indeed remains in the next world; in due time, the wise become grantors of boons.
विभ्रांतकांतहरिणीसदृशेक्षणाभिः कांतोरुहारमणिकुण्डलमेखलाभिः
With eyes resembling those of a restless beloved deer, adorned with lovely hair, jeweled earrings, and girdles.
यैस्त्वं नरैः सकृदपि प्रणतः कथंचिद्ध्यातोऽथवा भुवननाथ तथांतकाले
O Lord of the worlds, even if you are worshipped just once by people, or remembered in any way, especially at the time of death—
ये त्वां कुतर्कमतिभिर्न नमंति भक्त्या रोमांचकंचुकशताकुलितैः शरीरैः 5.1.32.
But those who, with minds clouded by false reasoning, do not bow to you with devotion, their bodies not stirred with the thrill of piety—
उदधिजलतरंगक्षोभलोलाक्षियुग्मैः सफणिमणिमयूखोद्भासितैर्लेलिहद्भिः
With eyes restless like the waves of the ocean, shining with the rays of jeweled hoods, the serpents lick—
तव सुरवर गच्छतोऽनुसरंति त्रिदशनदीकमलोद्ग तानि वातैः
O best of gods, as you proceed, the lotuses of the rivers of the gods, stirred by the wind, follow you.
तत्त्वध्यानं जलनिधिनिवहे स्थित्वा स्थित्वा चरणनिवहैः
Meditating on your true nature, standing again and again in the midst of the ocean, with rows of feet—
उदयाद्रिनितंबसंस्थितस्य ह्युदयेष्वस्तमयेषु चावृतस्य
As you are stationed on the slope of the eastern mountain, veiled at sunrise and sunset—
यथायथा व्रजति रथस्तवांबरे विपाटयन्धनतिमिरौघसंचयान्
As your chariot moves through the sky, it tears apart the dense masses of darkness with its shining rays.
चारुपद्मविनिमीलितेक्षणां चक्रवाककलहंसमेखलाम्
With beautiful lotus-like eyes half-closed, and a girdle of chakravaka and swan birds—
नीललोलमतिकान्तमुत्पलं भृंगतुंगचरणाकुलीकृतम्
The blue, charming lotus, crowded by the high-stepping bees—
स्फुरच्छशांकहारनिर्मलं खग त्वदंकेष्वचंचलम्
The spotless necklace of the shining moon, restless upon your lap, O bird—
हरिति च तावन्मुहिर्निषेविततमस्यशुभं भवति च यावदैव किरणैस्तव पूजिततरम्
And so long as the green earth is enveloped in darkness, it remains unclean, until it is honored by your rays.
त्वं विष्णुस्त्वं शशांकस्त्वमसुरमथनः शण्मुखस्त्वं धनेशस्त्वं कालस्त्वं च धाता क्षितिधरमलयापाश्रयस्त्वं हुताशः 5.1.32.
You are Vishnu, you are the moon, you are the destroyer of demons, you are Shanmukha, you are the lord of wealth, you are Time, you are the creator, the refuge of the mountains and Malaya, you are the fire.
त्वमनिंद्य गोपते त्रिपुरमथन मन्मथदाहकरस्त्वमसुरभीमदर्पहा पाहि माम्
You are beyond reproach, protector of cows, destroyer of Tripura, burner of Kama, destroyer of the pride of terrifying demons—protect me.
