आगमिष्याम्यहं तत्र सहितोऽप्सरसां गणैः
I shall come there, accompanied by the hosts of Apsarases.
मेघखण्डे समुद्भूते मयि तत्र प्रवर्षति
When a mass of clouds arises, I shall cause rain there.
भास्करं च नमस्कृत्य ब्रह्माद्यैः पूजितं विभुम्
Having bowed to the Sun, the Lord worshipped by Brahma and the others,
एवं मृर्तिद्वयं व्यास दत्त्वा पार्थाय वासवः
Thus, Vyasa, Vasava gave the two images to Partha.
नारदो द्वारकायां तु कृष्णस्याह्वानकारणात्
Then Narada, in Dvaraka, for the purpose of inviting Krishna,
श्रावयामास विप्रेंद्रं एहि कृष्ण कुशस्थलीम्
Caused the chief of Brahmins to hear: 'Come, Krishna, to Kusasthali.'
इंद्रेणाथ प्रदत्ते वै ते तुभ्यं पांडवाय च
Then, O Pandava, Indra gave these to you as well.
अवातरच्च आकाशात्तमालिंग्य च पांडवम् 5.1.32.
He descended from the sky and embraced the Pandava.
जन्म मे सफलं जातं प्रीतिर्मे जनितार्जुन
My birth has become fruitful; joy has arisen in me, O Arjuna.
इत्युक्त्वा तौ तदा व्यास समायातौ कुशस्थलीम्
Having spoken thus, Vyasa, those two then went to Kusasthali.
गत्वार्जुन दिशं प्राचीं मूर्तिमेकां निवेशय
Go, Arjuna, to the eastern direction and install one image.
अहमप्युत्तरां यामि स्थापनार्थं नदीं मुने
I too shall go north, O sage, to establish (the image) at the river.
पूर्वां गत्वा ततः पार्थ शुभं स्थानं व्यलोकयत्
Having gone east, then Partha beheld an auspicious place.
अर्कं देवं स्थापयामि यावद्दध्यौ च पांडवः
I shall install the Sun god, while Pandava meditates.
कथयामास पार्थाय तेजसा तेन दुःसहम्
He narrated to Partha about that unbearable brilliance.
तेजस्त्वसहमानो वै देवं वचनमब्रवीत्
Unable to endure the brilliance, he spoke to the god.
सौम्य रूपः सुदर्शश्च प्रजाभ्यो भव गोपते
O protector of cows, be gentle in form and beautiful to behold for the people.
भुविस्था मानवाः पूता भवंतु तव दर्शनात् 5.1.32.
Let the mortals on earth be purified by your sight.
दक्षिणेन करेणाथ ह्यभयेनाभयप्रदः
With his right hand, indeed, he grants fearlessness through the gesture of protection.
प्रभाकरेण देवेन निजं तेजः प्रदर्शितम
By the radiant deity, his own brilliance was revealed.
प्राप्ते लग्ने च हरिणा शंखश्चापूरितो महान्
When the auspicious moment arrived, Hari filled the great conch.
भवति विगतपापं कीर्तनादेव यस्य प्रचुरकलुषदोषैर्ग्रस्तमंगं नराणाम्
One whose body is afflicted by abundant impurities and faults becomes free from sin merely by reciting his name.
ब्रह्माद्यैर्मुनिभिरभिष्टुतं पतंगं कः स्तोतुं कविरभिवांछते प्रकामम्
Who among poets, desiring greatly, would wish to praise the Sun, who is lauded by Brahma and other sages?
शास्त्रार्थकामनिपुणैर्मुनिभिः स्तुतस्य किं वस्तु यन्न रचितं विविधैः प्रयोगैः
What thing remains uncreated by those skilled sages, praised for their mastery of scripture and diverse applications?
कामं तथाप्यहमतीव विचार्य ब्रुद्ध्या भानोस्त्रिलोकगुरुपूजितपादयुग्मम्
Yet, even so, having considered deeply, I shall praise the pair of feet of the Sun, revered by the Guru of the three worlds.
तावज्जगद्भवति निश्चलमेव सर्वं तावत्क्रियाश्च विविधा न च यांति सिद्धिम्
So long as that happens, the entire world remains unmoving; so long, various actions do not attain success.
तावन्न भांति शिखराणि महीरुहाणां गुच्छैस्तु फुल्लवनमीलितलोचनानि
So long, the peaks of trees do not shine, nor do the clusters of flowers close their eyes in blooming forests.
उद्यंतमंबरतले सुरसिद्धसंघाः सब्रह्मदैत्यमुनिकिन्नरनागयक्षाः 5.1.32.
When he rises in the sky, the hosts of gods and siddhas, along with Brahma, demons, sages, kinnara, men, nāgas, and yakṣas—
अस्तं गते त्वयि जगद्भवति प्रसुप्तं भूयस्त्वयि प्रतपति प्रतिबोधमेति
When you set, the world becomes asleep; when you shine again, it awakens.
उत्साहशक्तिनयशौर्यसमन्वितानां सेवाप्रयोगरचनाविधितत्पराणाम् ६२
