तत्सर्वं कोटिगुणितं जायते नात्र संशयः
All that becomes multiplied a crore times; there is no doubt about this.
मुच्यते सर्वपापेभ्यो निर्मोकेन यथोरगः
One is freed from all sins, just as a serpent sheds its skin.
दृष्ट्वा देवं महाकालं गोसहस्रफलं लभेत् 5.1.22.
Having seen the god Mahākāla, one obtains the fruit of giving a thousand cows.
चांद्रायणसहस्रस्य फलं प्राप्नोति मानवः
A person attains the fruit of a thousand Cāndrāyaṇa vows.
गन्धपुष्पार्चनं कृत्वा महास्नपनपूर्वकम्
Having performed worship with fragrance and flowers, preceded by a great bathing rite,
लभते सर्वकामित्वं यत्सुरैरपि दुर्लभम्
One attains the fulfillment of all desires, which even the gods find difficult to obtain.
गंधपुष्पैश्च कालीनैस्तथा वस्त्रैः सुशोभनैः
With seasonal fragrances and flowers, and with beautiful garments,
समभागानि कृत्वा तु शिलापृष्ठे च पेषयेत्
Having made equal portions, one should grind them on a stone slab.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां पञ्चम आवंत्यखण्डेऽवन्तीक्षेत्रमाहात्म्ये रुद्रसरोमाहात्म्यवर्णनंनाम द्वाविंशोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the fifth Avantya section, in the glory of the Avanti region, this is the twenty-second chapter named 'The Greatness of Rudra's Lake.'
शिवां श्रेयस्करीं पुण्यां पुण्यलोकप्रदायिनीम्
Śivā, bestower of welfare, holy, and giver of the world of merit—
स्नात्वा सरसि रुद्रस्य दृष्ट्वा कोटेश्वरं शिवम्
Having bathed in Rudra's lake and seen Koṭīśvara Śiva,
गन्धैः पुष्पैर्नमस्कारैः संपूज्य त्रिदशेश्वरम्
Having worshipped the Lord of the gods with fragrances, flowers, and salutations,
तत्रैव देवदेवेशः कपालं न्यस्तवान्क्षितौ
There, indeed, the Lord of the gods placed the skull upon the ground.
कपालमोचनं नाम सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
This is called Kapālamocana, the destroyer of all sins.
तदर्धार्धेन पादेन वित्तशाठ्यविवर्जितः
With half of half a step, free from deceit regarding wealth,
नमस्कृत्य ततो गच्छेत्कपिलेश्वरमुत्तमम्
After bowing, one should then proceed to the excellent Kapileśvara.
हनुमत्केश्वरं देवं ततो गच्छेत्समाहितः
Then, with concentration, one should go to Hanumatkeśvara, the divine Lord.
ततो गच्छेन्महादेवं पैप्पलाख्यं सनातनम्
After that, one should go to Mahādeva, known as Paippalākhya, the eternal.
स्वप्नेश्वरं ततो गच्छेद्भक्तिश्रद्धासमन्वितः 5.1.23.
Then, endowed with devotion and faith, one should proceed to Svapneśvara.
ततो गच्छेन्महादेवमीशानं विश्वतोमुखम्
After that, one should go to Mahādeva Īśāna, who faces in all directions.
सोमेश्वरं ततो गच्छेज्जितक्रोधो जितेंद्रियः
Then, having conquered anger and the senses, one should go to Someśvara.
वैश्वानरेश्वरं व्यास ततो गच्छेत्समाहितः
Then, with concentration, one should proceed to Vaiśvānareśvara, O Vyāsa.
बीजपूरकहस्तं तु लकु लीशं ततो व्रजेत्
Then one should go to Lakulīśa, holding a citron fruit in hand.
ततो गच्छेन्महादेवं गद्याणेश्वरमुत्तमम्
After that, one should go to Mahādeva, the excellent Lord of Gadyāṇa.
अभ्यर्थितः सदा देवैः पूजितः सिद्धिकारणात्
He is always requested by the gods and worshipped for the sake of accomplishment.
वयोवृद्धं ततो गच्छेन्महाकालं सनातनम्
Then one should go to Mahākāla, the eternal, who is aged.
विघ्ननाशं ततो गच्छेत्प्राणीशं बलमुत्तमम्
After that, one should go to Vighnanāśa, the supreme Lord of life and strength.
तस्य चैव कृते स्नाने लभ्यंते सर्वसिद्धयः
By bathing there, all accomplishments are obtained.
तनयं तमनूल्लंघ्य दंड पाणिं ततो व्रजेत् 5.1.23.
Without bypassing his son, one should then proceed to Daṇḍapāṇi.
पुष्पदन्तं ततो गच्छेद्भक्तिश्रद्धासमन्वितः
Then, endowed with devotion and faith, one should go to Puṣpadanta.
